I do!
It IS awesome.
HOWEVER.
Colin's voice is more depressing than Steven's.
"Crazy", you say!
But it's true!
Morrisey has a certain tone to his voice that is somewhat "comforting."
Colin's voice is much more "hopeless."
Especially on "I've Changed My Plea to Guilty."
"Sister I'm a Poet" is perfect, though. |

I love "Every Day is Like Sunday", but that's probably just because it is my favorite Morrissey song. |

Yeh... I'm thinkin' the acoustic nature just makes it too depressing for me.
Like if you just read the lyrics...
It just loses something.

Speaking of covers that are more depressing, how about Gary Jules' "Mad World"? |

I can imagine!
This is actually the first I have heard of this album. And my initial reaction was to say "Oh boy!" excitedly. Without irony.
I am a strange girl. |

I once had something near Morrissey's hair. But that was a long time ago, like during the holidays. |

That's why it's an EP!
And these covers are great. I love Meloy. |

Wait... Doesn't the E stand for "Extended?" |

Yeah, but they still only usually have 5 songs or less. It's a stupid name for it, I think. LPs are full length albums. |

Thank you both Andy and Steve for being so awesome so quickly!
I actually had no idea that Colin Meloy liked (and was inspired by maybe?) Morrissey. Not that I know a whole lot about the guy in general. Coincidentally though, I know a girl who's totally keen on Morrissey, and I've been meaning to ask her for some time if she's given a listen to the Decemberists, as I suspect she'd like them.
I am not as musically learned as I like to pretend! |

Morrissey. GOD this brings back memories. Yeah, I know he's back now and all but I refer to the part of my life when all I listened to was Morrissey and The Smiths. Those were the days, my friend.
Well, I like the Decemberists, and the singer is pretty good, but he does himself a disservice by setting his voice up for comparison with the rich, glistening baritone that is the voice of Morrissey! |

In the corner of your room, can you hear me ?
And when you're dancing and laughing and finally living,
hear my voice in your head and think of me kindly."

Yeah, but the point of reference is a single, which traditionally has two songs. |

Do you need permission from the artist who's songs you cover? |

The whole American Idol show is people singing other peoples' songs, and they're making tons of money.
I think they should get their pants sued off. I don't support suing people for stupid reasons, but in the case of American Idol I'll make an exception. I'd like that show to go off the air, and die of asphyxiation. |

I support suing, but only in the event of pant removal. |

Yeah, but I think the only thing they'd have to seek permission for is anything released as a record. Stupid, I know, but if the TV show was sued there'd be grounds for suing every little talent show in the country.
Is there any way we can stop Avril Lavigne from ever doing any covers again ever? I thought Knockin' On Heaven's Door (which had already been debased by Gabrielle beyond what anyone thought possible) was as bad as she could make it, but then a friend of mine played me a live version of her doing System of a Down's Chop Suey. I'm not an especially big SoaD fan, but I recognise that Chop Suey is a decent song and that there should be some kind of musical Geneva Convention to protect innocent songs from people like Avril. |

For great Morrissey covers, look no further than Russian lolita-girl duo tATu's heart-rending version of "How Soon is Now?"
Lesbians!
No, just a clever marketing
gimmick, cashing in on the
average male's fantasies
about all-girl pajama-parties. |

Anyone ever hear the Deftones cover of "Please, please, please, please, please, please let me get what I want." It's weird.
I can never remember how many pleases are in the title! |

I did hear this. It was weird but good.
I went to a Dandy Warhols concert, where they did every song of theirs, and just about every other song too. They did a crazy version of "There is a Light That Never Goes Out." I wish I had a recording of that! |
