You have changed Garfield from being depressing because it's not that funny to being depressing because Jon is just that pathetic.
Especially that boxer shorts one. Oh Jon... |

the weird thing is...
these doctored comics aren't especially quirky or weird. they're just... normal, funny comics. with the exception of one or two, i can't picture any dialogue coming from garfield in any of them.
you guys have taken garfield and turned it into something not unlike peanuts. excuse me while i collect my jaw from the floor. |

This is the Garfield from September 11, 2001 - and even though it was probably prepared weeks or months in advance, it seems like a daringly edgy response to a crisis. |

It means Garfield COULD BE funny! Like a guy with a huge goiter COULD look OK. |

You could go through life only looking at a persons left side |

Sadly, this experiment does not make the Family Circus any funnier. It does, however, change it from a saccharine sweet sack of Hallmark Channel crap into charming, one-panel, Norman Rockwell-esque portraits of American children. They live their lives quietly. The watcher is struck by the feeling of innocence, and wonders if perhaps they should creep quietly out of the room, to let these sweet cherubs play on without interruption:
The experiment also fails to really improve Fox Trot, arguably a "good" strip, not a "shitty" strip. It has its uses, however, when you remove Jason Fox's barbed tongue. Instead of an overly precocious, annoying little nerd, he is now a passive character, and the interaction between him and his older brother Peter becomes errie and not a little bittersweet:
Finally, I took the liberty of using this tool to improve that old chestnut Fred Basset. With his mostly 3-panel shenanigans and tendency to deride others in thought balloons, he seemed the perfect subject for this. Lo and behold, his corny humor is washed away in a tide of realism. Fred is a dog, a true animal and subject to all of the pain, sadness and danger that real canines experience daily:

That already-mentioned castlezzt site had this, but it's way too funny to sit at the bottom of that page all sad and unnoticed.

Another first-time poster...
I did this a while back, when I first discovered castlezzt. I've got a page of them up there, but so as not to flood, here's some of my favorites:
This one really demonstrates the interest of your average garfield strip:
I gotta say, I have a newfound interest in making these...maybe if there's time later on... |

To be honest, I think there is only one Garfield comic out of all of those I can even imagine him saying something. Seriously, I can't even begin to guess what he would say in those comics, they feel written for his lack of dialogue. |

Also, how'd you like to be the sucker who had to go back and colorize all the old strips? |

Exploring a universe in where Utahraptor never speaks
he always rushes in and wants to say something
but never does and finally leaves
lets watch
Does this make T-Rex a kind of dinosaur that just talks so much
Utahraptor can't get a foot in the door of conversations and leaves
also this makes T-Rex always talking to himself or to Dromiceiomimus (who is never really intrested and soon quits the conversations) |
