First thing I thought was that this was going to be about stegosaurs but then I realized it wasn't. THEN I thought the last panel was really funny because I thought it said "I don't understand" but then I realized it was "you don't understand." I found this less funny.
DISAPPOINTMENTS ALL AROUND RYAN
STILL PRETTY GOOD THOUGH
I GUESS |

Great comic! My curiosity led me to decode the message BEFORE the contest was announced. Too bad I was SECOND.
Bummer. |

By the time I got to the news post I'd already forgotten about the significance of jpegs and was wondering what Ryan was talking about.
I also like it better with "I don't understand!" |

I was all trying to guess the secret code when I sneezed really hard and suddenly I had it (or realized that i didn't need it depending how you think). Funny and worth it, but I put too much effort in.
Unless there's actually two secrets. In which case, I hope the second one is that image from the very end of Fight Club. |

Not so much laziness as the fact that I don't know enough about image file formats to have the slightest idea how to get that. |

Get steghide from SourgeForge. There's a precompiled version available, so you don't need to compile it yourself, unless you're masochistic like me.
Then do something like this:
| Code: |
D:\MinGW\dev\steghide>steghide.exe extract -sf comic2-1050.jpg
Enter passphrase:
wrote extracted data to "message-for-YOU.gif". |
Notice the passphrase is blank. Just press [enter]. |

I was going to decode it, but figured thatit was all just a clever ruse. And it did change! Though I think I liked it better before. |

Ah yeah, I had wondered if it was that, but it seemed so *boring*. I'm disappointed, Ryan! I expected something more clever! |

I know. I was readying myself for an international voyage of discovery, not a mildly obscene message. But putting it in a gif was pretty nice.
Wait! We might have META-STEGANOGRAPHY!

Unless by "boring" you mean the fact that you needed a program to get it as opposed to some clever thinkin'? Cuz that's what I was hoping for, I opened the image in Photoshop and started thinkin' and then I saw the rest of the thread and was like oh. :| |

I'm willing to bet that there's a secret message in the original template for Dinosaur Comics. It's in the 5th panel T-Rex, that's why he looks so off-color!

Did anyone else start writing a custom decoder at the first sign of technical detail? ( - ...least significant bit...)
Too bad I was expecting the payload to be plain text, though. |

Man the last time I put a secret message in Dinosaur Comics NONE of you suckers got it, and it still hasn't been discovered, so don't play the "too easy" line on me! |

The plot thickens.
I felt compelled to register to this forum solely for that.
Am I crazy?
The answer is yes. |

From a quick poking around with Google image search there doesn't seem to be any other JPG images. Maybe it's a text chunk in a PNG image, but short of convoluted batch script and wget abuse, there's no easy way to tell, and I'm not in the mood for that right now. I might be going at this from a completely wrong angle though. Need more to go on. |
