I am thinking about adding to the Elephant shirt

It already says "Where is my elephant" which is ГДЕ МОЙ СЛОН

but I want to also say "Right there in the center" which Babelfish tells me is ПРАВО ТАМ В ЦЕНТРЕ

My fear is that ПРАВО means "right" as in "not left", and that ПРАВО ТАМ В ЦЕНТРЕ is not quite correct for what I want to say.

Miles if you could ask your friend I would be thankful!

aw, come on, forum

Anyway Babelfish "Right there in the center" and tell me if it is correct? Or, alternately, ask your friend how to say "right there in the center"?

Somehow I never saw this thread after I said that earlier, but did those Russian characters show up for anyone else? I only see the unicode entities.

Anyway is it too late? I'm guessing it is since you already made up the graphic thing, but if not I'm sure I can get the unicode stuff to work and ask my friend about it.

No it just shows up as unicode -- hence the second, frustrated post.

I had to finalize the design so I just did a bunch of research with different dictionaries until I was pretty sure I was saying things correctly. I may still be wrong but any changes now will have to wait until the next printing!

thanks tho

Sry :\

I'll show it to my friend anyway, maybe he can at least confirm it's right.

yeah maybe showing him the graphic is a good idea! It's possible Kurt hasn't made the screens yet.

He said that it says "Where is my elephant? Immediately there in the middle" and that that is probably an acceptable translation though there might be a better word than "immediately" except he doesn't really get the joke.

maybe it would help to pose it as a question-and-answer?

Q. "Where is my elephant?"

A. "Right there in the center [of your shirt]"

thanks for asking him miles!

I showed him the comic and he said he'd stick with what you've got.

My partner was a Russian linguist for the US Army. I've been told that she speaks pretty good Russian, but her training means that it is easier for her to ask the question "where are your tanks?" than the question "where is the bathroom?"

okay then. we already have 260 readers.
by the way i have a question about your guest strip for Alien Loves Predator. i really want to post it in the community but there's a couple of jokes i don't get.
1. who's the yoga chick?
2. i read about benny hinn but i don't understand: is there some weird connection between him and pissing in the bottle?Smile

1. The yoga chick is a character from an early Alien Loves Predator storyline who lived across the street from Abe & Bernie and who would do yoga naked. The guys would stare at her while she did it. (if I remember correctly)

2. Benny Hinn is a very showy and over-the-top TV preacher. There is no connection between him and pissing in a bottle, except that apparently watching is program gets Abe worked into a frenzy.

and i thought maybe that benny hinn guy would go on for hours with his show and abe liked it so much he wouldn't take bathroom breaks Smile

I study Russian, love the shirt, and signed up to comment.

"Vot on, v tsentre" best translates to "He is there, downtown." I didn't find out until today, several weeks after I first saw the shirt, that it was supposed to mean "in the center."

It would probably have been better to say "Vot on, sredi." ("Вот он, среди.")

Still, I'm planning on buying one and wearing it to my uni's international festival, where I will be serving up bliny and tea at the Russian table.

EDIT: The Cyrillic characters aren't displaying. Here is an image instead:
