I haven't listened to it yet but I'm really really gay for Colleen and the fact that she's on this album is already a plus

zach, the growing album reminds me a lot of brian eno and robert fripp's ambient stuff, with a little less frippage on the guitar, and a little more modern "laptop" sorta stuff but it is nice and i like it Smile

corey i am catching up on yours dogg but there is so much of it, havent had much time to just listen to ambient albums and you have to be in the right mood to really get it and also not fall asleep while listening to them. balmorhea was really pretty from what i heard! downloading romance of etc now! good thread dude Smile)

here is my own personal contribution

Image

Artist.....: Belong
Album....: October Music
Genre....: Ambient/Shoegaze/Experimental
Release..: 2006

Belong is an ambient shoegaze band from New Orleans. This album, though none of the tracks really stick out to me, is I think incredibly beautiful. It is the sound of dead air combing ruins. It is the sound of the world being torn apart. Reviews have compared this to Fennesz, My Bloody Valentine, Tim Hecker, and The Jesus and Mary Chain, but none of those are really analogous to Belong. It focuses on guitar effects and textures to create an incredible experience. I should get more of their stuff.

Tracklist:
01. I Never Lose. Never Really
02. Red Velvet or Nothing
03. October Language
04. I'm Too Sleepy... Shall We Swim?
05. Remove the Inside
06. Who Told You This Room Exists?
07. All Equal Now
08. The Door Opens the Other Way

i spoke with one of the guys from balmorhea awhile ago asking if they were going to release any vinyls, and he said they're not so they can release a new album sometime next year on vinyl with a really great package.

so that's exciting, also they made a tour ep limited to 175 copies but then their tour got cancelled, so they sold it online and i got one and it's 5 pretty good songs. i'd up it but as you might know by now, my computer's broken and i'm using kerri's and i dont have any of my programs.

since you guys know what balmorhea is all about by now i dont think i need to do a full format thing, but here's a link to their album after Balmorhea:

Artist.....: We All Inherit The Moon
Album....: We All Inherit The Moon
Genre....: Ambient/Experimental/Post-Rock
Release..: 2008

We All Inherit The Moon is a band that uses guitar, piano, strings, and drums to create some pretty great spacey music. Lots of effects on the guitars, along with the arrangement of the rest of the instruments leaves you in a dreamlike state when you're listening to the album. Some obvious Stars of the Lid and Brian Eno influences with the droning guitar and strings. The album's a short one, clocking in at just around 20 minutes. They released this on vinyl only with a free download.

From their myspace description:
Quote:
HQ 180 gram vinyl/hand-sewn, hand-screened covers/individually hand-etched, hand-drawn b-side/hand-stamped a-side label/original john thompson cover art and signed original print, limited edition 500.

So yet another band who puts a lot of love into their music and it's counterparts. This 20 minutes always leaves me wanting more, and I believe they are releasing a full length sometime soon in the future. I know I'm looking forward to it.

Tracklist:
01. Part I
02. Part II
03. Part III
04. Part IV
05. Part V

Belong is so good! Try and get their Colorloss EP as well.

I'm loving most of these bands Smile

Artist.....: Fennesz
Album....: Endless Summer Reissue
Genre....: Ambient/Electronic/Glitch/Noise
Release..: 2006

Fennesz is one guy who makes music using his computer and an assortment of instruments. It's much more glitchy than anything I've posted and not really my cup of tea. I like some parts of some songs, but overall this is not the kind of ambient I enjoy. It's here because it was requested by James and Fennesz has a pretty big fan base so I'm sure others will like it.

Tracklist:
01. Made in Hong Kong
02. Endless Summer
03. A Year in a Minute
04. Caecilia
05. Got to Move On
06. Shisheido
07. Before I Leave
08. Happy Audio
09. Badminton Girl (reissue bonus track)
10. Endless (reissue bonus track)

I'm pretty ambivalent about Fennesz iirc

Also I don't know if I am retarded or what but I can never download from zShare; I just get put into a loop of clicking download forever so I'll find it somewhere else P:

For some reason I thought I didn't like Fennesz, but this is actually pretty great. Maybe I just got a bad batch...

I love this sort of glitchy nonsense though.

slsk doesnt seem to have it but I should keep checking
no torrents
the 4chan rapidshare database doesn't have it

Artist.....: Gregor Samsa
Album....: 55:12
Genre....: Post-Rock/Shoegaze/Ambient
Release..: 2006

Gregor Samsa is from Virginia and is the least typically sounding ambient band that I've posted. It's probably because they have just as much post-rock and shoegaze influences as ambient. I had to post them because from the first time I heard them they've remained one of my favorite bands. A lot of the album is layered guitars and duel vocals by the male and female singer, which gives the album a beautiful atmospheric feel. It also has it's share of crashing crescendos, which hasn't been a pattern with the artists in this thread, but I felt it'd be nice to switch it up a bit. I can't tell you how many times I've listened to 55:12, and still every time I hear it I think it's just as great and beautiful as it was the first time I heard it.

Tracklist:
01. Makeshift Shelters
02. Even Numbers
03. What I Can Manage
04. Loud and Clear
05. These Points Balance
06. Young and Old
07. We'll Lean That Way Forever
08. Lessening

Artist.....: Helios
Album....: Eingya
Genre....: Ambient/Electronic
Release..: 2006

Helios, or Keith Kenniff, is a guy from Boston. He has a few other projects, the most well known one aside from Helios being Goldmund. Eingya is a masterful blend of electronic and acoustic sounds. Alongside these elements are interesting drum beats and layers of found sounds, guitars, synths, etc. that take a few listens to really become aware of in their entirety. It's a wonderfully calm album that has it's thoughtful moments, it's beautiful moments, and everything in between.

Tracklist:
01. Bless This Morning Year
02. Halving The Compass
03. Dragonfly Across An Ancient Sky
04. Vargtimme
05. For Years And Years
06. Coast Off
07. Paper Tiger
08. First Dream Called Ocean
09. The Toy Garden
10. Sons Of Light And Darkness
11. Emancipation
