Artist.....: Eluvium
Album....: Copia
Genre....: Ambient
Release..: 2007
I think Stars of the Lid and Eluvium are in the same boat, where you hear about ambient music and you hear their names but maybe you haven't heard them. Well if you haven't listened to Eluvium yet you should now. It's a one man project and uses a lot of drone elements with piano, keyboards, brass, strings, found sounds, etc. I love everything I've heard by him, but Copia is my favorite. I've fallen asleep to it more times than I can count. It's beautiful.
Tracklist:
01. Amreik
02. Indoor Swimming at the Space Station
03. Seeing You Off The Edges
04. Prelude For Time Feelers
05. Requiem on Frankfort Ave.
06. Radio Ballet

Pretty much agree with Tom.
When I was just starting to listen to ambient music and someone said Eluvium was good, I almost stopped there because it was so bad. Luckily I found out not everything is as boring as Eluvium. |

Artist.....: The Dead Texan
Album....: The Dead Texan
Genre....: Ambient/Drone
Release..: 2004
The Dead Texan is the side project of Adam Wiltzie, who is one half of Stars of the Lid. This is the only Dead Texan release. The music is pretty similar to Stars of the Lid, but Wiltzie released it as a side project because he felt it was too "aggressive" for SotL. On the album he collaborated with Christina Vantzos, a film maker, and the mood and tone of the album is highly influenced by the video that was being made alongside the album, and vice versa. I feel it's very enjoyable drone/ambient music.
Tracklist:
01. The Six Million Dollar Sandwich
02. Glen's Goo
03. A Chronicle of Early Failures - Part 1
04. A Chronicle of Early Failures - Part 2
05. Taco de Macque
06. Aegina Airlines
07. When I See Scissors I Can't Help But Think of You
08. Girth Rides a (Horse)
09. La Ballade d'Alain Georges
10. Beatrice Part 2
11. The Struggle

in the meantime i'm downloading the labradford, really looking forward to that
just to let you know even though i'm not posting a lot in this thread corey i am keeping one eye on it and downloading some of the stuff and i will let you know whether i like it when i get around to listening to it
do you like Twine? their self-titled is very good in my opinion and the latest one (violets) isn't bad either
i bought it twice and lost it twice though :(
not paying for it again
ps. i don't like eluvium tons either, although i bought copia
it is very very pretty but i got tired of it after a little while, maybe someday i'll listen to it again and like it |

Artist.....: Mono & World's End Girlfriend
Album....: Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain
Genre....: Neo-classical/Post-Rock/Ambient
Release..: 2006
Mono is a japanese post-rock band and World's End Girlfriend is a japanese ambient/electronic artist. This is a collaboration between the two and is pretty different than what either artist sounds like on their own. It's a lot of strings with some guitar and bits of other instruments. Listening to all five parts in a row is great. Mostly quiet string sections that build up to occasional noisy climaxes. I don't think my description is really doing it justice so you should just check it out and see what you think for yourself.

when i first heard about them i kind of wrote them off because there's members of arcade fire in the band, and i figured it would just be one of those bands that everyone jizzed all over because of that fact
but i just downloaded their album and listened to the first couple songs and it's pretty good and isn't anything what i expected
i'll have to put some more time into it and then i'll let you know what i think :) |

Artist.....: A Lily
Album....: I Dress My Ankles With God's Sweetest Words
Genre....: Folk/Electronic/Ambient
Release..: 2008
A Lily is the side project of James Vella, a member of the post-rock band Yndi Halda. This is his second release under A Lily. While his first release, entitled Wake:Sleep is a fully instrumental electronic/ambient album, this album has vocals on the first two tracks. "A Town Like Hurricane" is a nice, uplifting folk song that instantly catches you and pulls you in. "A Song for Ron Mental and Sydney Bishop" mixes electronic and folk with a slight ambient feel throughout. "Hunter and Sky" is a beautiful drone track that reminds me of Stars of the Lid. The three songs are arguably in three fairly different genres, so it's a fun and interesting album and even though there are only three tracks I have yet to find any of them getting old.

Artist.....: Ramses III
Album....: Honey Rose
Genre....: Ambient/Drone/Experimental
Release..: 2007
Ramses III is a three person drone/ambient group from England. Honey Rose is a fairly short EP, about 25 minutes, comprised of beautiful soft and fuzzy ambient/drone made with synthesizers, acoustics, and minor "vocals". The album was made as the soundtrack for a small local film. All of the tracks central around a similar theme. Theme Two is my favorite but since they all work around a similar theme it's hard to not like all of them if you like any.
Tracklist:
01. Theme One
02. Theme Two
03. Theme Three
04. Theme Four
05. Theme Five
06. Theme Six

Artist.....: The Soul's Release
Album....: Sometime, Somewhere
Genre....: Ambient
Release..: 2008
The Soul's Release is Alex Rich. He's twenty years old, from California, and makes soundscape/ambient music combining the use of electronic and acoustic elements. It's like if Sigur Ros combined with Stars of the Lid and got 20 years younger. A very ethereal album that I've been enjoying a lot lately.

03. Elska Min
04. Joy Leaves

Artist.....: The Tumbled Sea
Album....: Songs By The Tumbled Sea
Genre....: Ambient/Modern Classical
Release..: 2007
The Tumbled Sea in the solo project of Sam Lee from Boston. I took my own pictures of the album because there's not an "album cover" per se. (The pictures are backwards because I had to use photobooth). It's a handmade cd case with a handwritten tracklisting. Very nice personal touch. I got the cd for free too by just emailing him and asking. The album is a fantastic blend of piano, strings, sound bites, keyboards, and so on. The mood Lee creates is calming and beautiful. It's hard to believe he's a local musician. I was blown away the first time I heard the album and I hope you are too.
Tracklist:
01. 97202
02. Walking
03. Emily's Song
04. Children Building This Rainman Out Of Snow
05. A Song For Staying In
06. A Growing Recognition of the Genius Birds
07. Sleeps
08. May
09. We're Turning Into Regular People
10. Doves
11. A Love Song
12. The People You Never Knew About
