am i ignoring anything that actually stands a chance of ending up on the list? from what i understand rush has maybe 2 positive votes and like 8 negatives, so there's no chance it will end up on the final list. But maybe I'll list it as tabb's most despised band?

at this point i'm only adding albums to the list if they have at least 2 votes (including the first one). or if i want to draw special attention to them, I guess.

why hasn't anyone suggested william shatner's album yet

Unfortunately you're the guy who thinks the Beatles were the most important thing to happen ever on Earth in the past forty years (more important than the fall of communism or rise of computers, among many other things) so it's just hard for me to take your peevishness seriously.

You're misremembering that conversation. It was my roommate who thought the Beatles were more important than the internet, which I disagreed with.

When I mentioned that here, you were all, "What about the Cold War?"
And I was like, "Uh, what about it?"
I still don't really get why it's so all-fired important, but this is probably not the place to discuss it.

That post made me look at the classical recordings I have which could be called 'albums' and I noticed that there aren't many which fit the category (i'm limiting it to first recordings with collaborations with the composer, and most composers don't write music with the primary aim of releasing an album per se) and also that there aren't very that I am a huge fan of

But I am going to nominate
Terry Riley: In C (if we're going to talk about 'influential' classical 'albums' this is where you should look.)
Arvo Pärt: Tabula Rasa, Spiegel Im Spiegel
Henryk Górecki: Symphony No 3 (this doesn't even fit the criteria I outlined above, but the fact that the famous london sinfonietta/dawn upshaw 1992 recording broke the mainstream top 10 allows it to qualify in my opinion)

Not adding any other classical albums. I thought about the Bernstein Stavinsky Sampler I see all the time or the Emerson Shostakovich String Quartets, but I say no for some arbitrary reason. I'll +1 the ones I really like.

The dearth of classical Recordings that can be called albums was a big reason for Glassworks going there, but seriously, Minimalism rules, and Glassworks is great example why. It's not the best Minimalist album (I would go with Reich's Bang on a Can or maybe something else by Adams for that or maybe NO ALBUM AT ALL), and it doesn't have any indie cred, but it's a great thesis.

There's very little music I dislike, though, so it's hard for me to tell simple good from bad.

Updated through me writing this. Note that the the list has been sorted by number of votes. We are at over 100 albums, but I've kept albums with a score of +1 if more than one person has voted on them (The Who's Tommy, for instance, had positive and negative votes giving it a total of 1 positive).

It looks like this process is kind of dying down, but maybe people will vote more based on what's on the list and what has been nominated. Any nomination counts as 1 positive vote so all it would take to knock The Who's tommy off the list is someone else +1ing Clipse, or whatever.
