So I may have mentioned in the pictures thread in the meta forum that I needed to lose a few pounds

way more than a few pounds imo

anyway I started my own program and stuff and well it's mainly concentrating on the exercise portion and not the eating stuff because I think I do alright with the eating stuff.

My goal right now is to lose 10 pounds by April 26. My starting weight on Monday March 30th was 301.8. I don't have another "official" weigh-in until April 13th but I did an "unofficial" weighing this morning and already I'm down to 298.8.

Anyway I just thought I'd track my progress here

So I was supposed to bike to work on Tuesday and it was a nice day to do it, unfortunately I woke up too late. That's okay, I made up for it by going on a 55-minute walk to buy carrots at lunch yesterday. And then there was a gym trip last night as well where I did approx. 30 minutes of cardio and I think about 25-30 minutes on weight equipment

Today well there's going to be a lot of walking around the university to get to class, but other than a walk later tonight nothing planned.

I feel I kind of set back my progress a little because at lunch I had a beer and a coke (we had a free lunch today with lots of garlic in it and when we have free lunches there's always beer). Usually I have more than one beer though but today I kept myself to one. The problem is the coke. I shouldn't have had it.

Okay I think that's about it for right now P:

I WILL DO THIS WITH YOU

I was 169 lbs. this morning and I think I'll make my goal 160 by May 1st.

I also do okay with eating (now that I'm not starving 24/7). I eat things like yogurt and fruit and chicken and crap. I do have a weakness for desserts when I go out to eat but I will have my friend slap me if I try to order one.

I did great with exercise last week but this week I was so busy I only made a couple walks and no elliptical. It's gonna be hard this weekend because I'll be away for a wedding but I'll try not to overdo it and get back to it when I return!

Would it help more if we provided encouragement, or teased and taunted you into a shame-based exercise regime?

Honestly, from this forum I'm expecting both but I'm sure encouragement is more appreciated than the latter.

Do whatever you can to not slack off EVER for any reason because it's difficult to get going on a routine but it's very easy to get off of it. Good luck guys!

Weight-wise, I only lost like 5 pounds when I was in the army. I must have lost like 15 pounds of fat, though.[/list]

the worst thing about all this (at least for this week) is that because of timing and everything my gf has to pick me up from work so we can go to class

but we don't have a lot of time between leaving work and going to get the train so we invariably end up having to eat at McDonald's for dinner

I really don't like it but thankfully, today is the last week of classes. I'm getting a salad tonight though, gotta opt for the low-calory dressing (if they have it)

are you totally friggin' kidding me you don't have a lot of time so you have to eat McDonalds? Just go to a supermarket and pick up an apple and a loaf of whole-grain bread it will fill you up, be just as cheap, just as quick, and be lots healthier.

If they don't have low-calorie dressing, get it in a little container on the side and dip your fork in before you stab the salad. You'll still get the taste but not as much dressing.

See that's what I wanted to do but it's not working out that way today (i.e. there really is no time...on a tight schedule to get the train to the university right after work)

if it could work out where my gf could get to the grocery store before picking me up then that would be ideal but it just isn't working out that way today :(

then go on whatever day you have some time and stock up on healthy snacks like apples or granola or yogurt so you don't have to worry about going anywhere to pick up food before the gym.

It helps to exercise with someone else, and try to set a pretty intense pace. I like weights and elliptical. I'll do 30 minutes of elliptical followed by ladder sets on weights, or three sets of moderate reps on days I am in a hurry. If you don't know, ladder sets are where you do like 16 reps in the first set, rest or do something else, go back and do 14, then 12, and so on, then scale back up to what you started with. It will kick your ass. I don't recommend starting like that, though, ease into weights, imo.

Try drinking a LOT of water, too. It is good for you anyway, but it will help fill your stomach and keep hunger under control.

gl you two!

oh man the elliptical is my favourite cardio machine now. I didn't use to like it. Anyway my standing goal for that one right now is 6 laps in 20 minutes. I end up clearing that at usually close to the 19-minute mark so I'm still working on that.

I used to go to the gym on a regular basis, so there is a routine that I like to go through that I have already. Basically weights and then cardio. But for the weights they have this "20-minute" program thing at the gym I go to, where you do one set of 12 reps on 9 machines but I like to do two sets. Then I work on the machines that are outside the 9-machine program. I find that works well and it builds up a good sweat.

I already drink tons of water at work every day. at least a litre and a half, sometimes two. I agree this is a good thing to do.

also kendall just to clarify I'm going to class tonight not the gym

yeah, elliptical trainers rule

my gym closed down this week but before that I was doing 30 minute sets on the elliptical almost daily and I was constantly in 140-150 bpm heart rate territory

Had a good gym night last night! I managed 6 laps in 17:30 - and averaged I think 1 mile in 12 minutes. Or it was 15 - I'm not sure. Anyway my new goal on the elliptical is 6 laps in 17:00, which means I should be able to reach 7 in 20 minutes for sure. Eventually I think I can hit the 8 lap / 2 mile mark in 20 minutes!

Going to play some road hockey tonight, should be fun. (:

Okay I'm back from the wedding. I was there for three days and ate too much because everywhere we went they kept serving delicious food (except strangely at the wedding). Only managed to drag people out on a walk once and it was super short. I did dance a ridiculous lot though. I'll see what the damage was tomorrow.

they have notes all over the place saying stuff like "PLEASE DON'T STEAL THE WEIGHTS :("

all the equipment looks like it's from the 80s

it's underground and there's no ventilation to speak of

etc.

Okay so today was weigh-in #2

I started at 301.8, weighed in at 301.6 today.

Not a lot of progress BUT actually it turns out there was. I was at 50% body fat two weeks ago and now I'm at 45% body fat.

So I'm not completely discouraged at all :)

I have a scale that does it for you. I don't think there's any way to do it manually or whatever.
