True, like Mono. Also re: the EITS and TWDY similarities, I was really aiming to get in there before anyone took a cheap shot.

actually mono does a lot of the loud/soft thing, but they do it well

and i don't think anyone would have taken that shot re: there's maybe three other people who know what you're talking about

Are you comparing them to recent Stereolab or older Stereolab?

I find it hard to believe they'd be better than Hansen-era Stereolab.

I can't really tell you with any degree of honesty what Stereolab I have heard. But when I heard it, I didn't really find it very interesting. The most recent Monade album however (all I have really listened to) is pretty great.

I guess I should probably listen to it and formulate an opinion.

i guess you're right but i pretty much consider them instrumental because a lot of their songs either have no vocals or they're very limited. by that same token a lot of the bands here like gy!be or avalanches aren't instrumental either.

I got Monstre Cosmic recently, and while it's pleasant, overall it is not anywhere near as good as most Stereolab albums.

However I suspect the things we like about Stereolab/Monade are entirely different.

plenty of band are mostly instrumental, but use voice once in a while. but the can albums i've heard have lyrics on every song. but i guess the main thing for me is how the vocals are used. it's not what cantlin was saying about understanding the language (i don't know what jacques brel is singing, but i certainly wouldn't call his music instrumental), but about how the songs are structured. is the voice given primacy, or is it treated like another instrument.
