The Curse of Lono by Hunter S. Thompson and Ralph Steadman. It's a retelling of his trip to hawaii and is CRAZY. Ralph Steadman has a bunch of freaky illustrations in there too.

"House of Leaves" by Mark Danielewski. It's a book about a documentary that's about a house whose dimensions on the inside exceed those of the outside.

There's much more to it than that, but it's amazing.

Father Twilight, it's a children's book that I loved when I was a children, and it's about this guy who sets up the stars and moon and everything each night. Great book with great pictures. You should read it.

But as for strange lengthy books, go with religious texts. They're always quite odd.

I LOST this book when I was only half-way through, and that makes me SO MAD.

It really is. It's written like one extended concrete poem. It's written in a way that, depending on the action in the narrative, your reading is paced along with the narrative. In addition to this, it's written to make you FEEL what's going on in the book.

Like, when they're trekking through a maze, the narrative breaks down. You spend hours reading a single page, backtracking, flipping the book upside down and such. But when they're trying to escape, there's only a few words per page, and you're frantically turning pages to try and keep up.

While shopping at an old second hand store recently, I got home to find a mysterious book had somehow snuck in with my purchases.

It is a small, tatty old book called

PSYCHO-CYBERNETICS
AND
SELF-FULFILLMENT

Max Maltz, M.D.

I have a feeling it's one of those books for which it far more entertaining to imagine the content rather than read.

D-did the book start to get really crappy after about half-way through? And you were all like "man, I wish something had prevented me from finishing that!"

No... I was pretty consistently astounded throughout the book. It may, in fact, be my favorite book of all time.

I was going to put "Giraffes? Giraffes!" a long time ago, but I didn't think it fit in with that poetry book and stuff.

I was at my friends house once and they were going to send their newborn baby cousin this awesome book! I think it was called "No Biting" and it was awesome! It told you things like "Don't Kick Your Dog" and then on a page you could sort of flip up it said "What Can You Kick?" and then you would flip it up and it would say "A BALL!" The illustrations were hilarious.

If anyone's familier with Rene Magritte's paintings of 'Ceci ne pas une pipe', they might be interested to know that someone wrote a children's book on the subject, with things like an apple, with the caption (in french) ''This is not an apple'' or a picture of a pope with ''This is not a Pope''

It was amazing.
