Now, now. It's just another shadowed corner of your youth (Well, only if you count watching the re-remake they used to show during the early afternoon slot in the 80's that you only watched when you were home sick) that they could exploit.
I'm waiting for them to redo "Far Out Space Nuts" as a sci-fi thriller |

you know what was better than alvin and the chipmunks? when you held the ff button on your audiocassette tape recorder/player down and turned all your favorite songs into chipmunk versions. |

Since this isn't a sign of the end, then what is? What franchise, upon being remade as a Hollywood movie, will either cause the public to demand with one voice NO MORE, or will signal to all that Hollywood CA is a black hole of creativity, beyond any hope of rescue?

I can only assume that the film contains similar sequences. Like, there's a scene where they're shot into space, and it's the Challenger disaster. And then they're boating through Venice, but they use background footage of a flooded New Orleans. And then they win the battle of the bands and Hitler awards them the gold medal. |
