So in the last two weeks I've seen Eastern Promises and Michael Clayton. Both of them are pretty good movies. Not fantastic, clean-out-your-colon, blow-you-away movies -- but solid grown-up thrillers with some twists and turns and good actors. On my must-see list next week are Gone, Baby, Gone and The Darjeeling Limited. And there are a lot of other movies opening (or already out) that look pretty interesting and ambitious.
In other words, I now officially declare "good movie season" to be open! And it's about time too -- I was starting to get really worried about this year. So far, I think Eastern Promises and Superbad are my favorites from 2007, but I expect and hope they will get knocked down the list in the next three months.
What are you guys liking this year? What are you hoping will be good? What is going to suck? Right now, I'm betting on either No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood to be the best movie of the year... And Beowulf is the biggest potential train wreck that there is even a remote chance I might see. |

The soundtrack for There Will Be Blood is by Jonny Greenwood.
Really looking forward to that. |

No Country looks great. Darjeeling Limited was good, and Superbad was pretty hilarious and sweet. I want to see Eastern Promises pretty bad. Also Be Kind Rewind but I think that might not be until like January. |

It's worth it just to see the sword of Elendil and a couple of palantirs that Aragorn's been hiding away. |

All thinking, "Is that really detailed character makeup? Or honest-to-goodness human fecal matter in a big-screen motion picture?" |

No David I did NOT notice l'article truqué épuisent on Viggo's man ass, and Google image search is not coming up with any screencaps I can consult. Meanwhile, a dozen teenaged boys are painstakingly (and redundantly) airbrushing pictures of Naomi Watts into digital nudity but nobody has five minutes to upload a clear shot of Aragorn's Crack of Doom. |

Not to be confused with his Prancing Pony, his Treebeard, or his Arkenstones. |

I think I must have watched this movie the equivalent of fifty times at least.
Now I look for excuses to say, in a lilting Boris Badinov accent, "Senti-mental valyew? I've kheard of dat." |

Also I don't know if Mr. Mortensen would appreciate your continued allusions to arguably his most famous role. Has Mark Hamill taught us nothing about the fearsome power we wield, if not checked by prudence? |

Mark Hamill has went on to becomem a voice actor for Metalocolypse.
Viggo should be excited. |

Mark Hamill could never have predicted how popular Star Wars would become. But the Viggster knew exactly what he was getting into with the Lord of the Rings and he has turned it to huge advantage for himself so I figure it's open season on Strider Longshanks, the Elfstar of Numenor. |

Boorishly, I have to call shenanigans on references to the books. Unless you can make a convincing case that Tolkien wrote The Silmarillion with MortoVigg in mind.
And Longshanks is from Braveheart SHEESH |

I saw Across The Universe last night, and it was good. Not exceptional, but generally good use of the Beatles music (only a couple songs I though they treated wrong). A few really good scenes, some good super-choreographed necessary musical sections. Worth seeing if you like the Beatles. |

The only mistake I've made is that it should be "Elfstone" (not "Elfstar"). You, on the other hand, are wrong about everything, but I don't want to have this conversation here.
I saw The Kingdom the other night and it wasn't as awful as I thought it would be. But Jason Bateman was the most annoying and most useless FBI agent ever. He probably did his best, but it was just such a terrible role. In fact, I don't think I've ever liked Jason Bateman in any movie except Starsky and Hutch. He is great on TV though. |

I hated Dodgeball with a fiery passion. Bateman was sort of funny, though. |

Guys, I don't think Mark Hamill really suffered from being typecast as the voice of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series.
Boorishly, was the point of your multiple posts that the entirety of The Lord of the Rings is an extended Freudian metaphor, where everyone's six titles translated into a penis? |
