If we had unicode, I wouldn't have had to spend an hour or two making  last year (by literally taking a screenshot of the unicode character then rejiggering the alpha channel so the antialiasing would work)
if we get this upgrade, we totally need to make a Unicode Thread to show off (and document) various code points that we find
ALSO: whatever happened to "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"? If anything, foes' posts should be MORE visible to you. Friends' posts you can ignore because you can probably guess what they we going to say anyway |

It leads to a breakdown in communication. It's harder for me to talk to you if you're ignoring somebody, because now you and I aren't looking at the same discussion. And maybe you think you would only ignore people who were so obnoxious that they wouldn't be contributing to the discussion anyway, but in practice many people end up blocking anyone who bothers them even slightly.
Those are my general reasons, but as others have mentioned, it would be an even worse idea here, where any thread has the potential to become something beautiful and unexpected. |
