Also, the Japs are crazy....I ordered a drink of whiskey at a karaoke place, and they brought me a pitcher full of it. I didn't complain or nothing, but it made walking back to the hostel afterward very difficult. But also very interesting!
And Rickard's Red = |

Mmmmmh... Beer Gardens.... *Funny imaginary scene where Eidam strolls through the "beer gardens". It is fun, but as they give re-runs, the effect wears off, and Homer isn't as fun as he was* |

GambleOn: Hoegaarden doesn't really taste like washing detergent, but it sure as hell smells like it. As long as you can ignore the smell and go for the fruity goodness, it's quite the treat!
Today is Bank Holiday Monday, where everyone is legally required to drink! |

IT TASTES LIKE IT!
My current favorite beer (based on economical value and taste) is Cintra. It's from Portugal, but it's only $33 Aussie dollars for 24 beers, which, according to xe.com, is $24 US dollars.
And it tastes UNLIKE washing detergent, in that it tastes good. Real malty and satisfying. |

I had my first Kilkenny today, I thought it was allright, personally I like a nice lager or a witbier, à la Hoegaarden.
I was raised on Tsing Tao, and can never stop loving it. |

I can't believe I haven't noticed this thread til now. I mean, I'm like 15% beer. As you may or may not know, I LOVE IPA's.
Whoever is saying American beer is rubbish is not looking in/living in the right places. Colorado has the second most micro-breweries (CA is 1) in the US, and 14 (!!) are in Boulder County. Corbie, even those Sweetwater guys met up in Boulder.
Locally excellent: Avery, Twisted Pine, Mountain Sun (does not bottle, but will sell ya growlers), Boulder Beer, Great Divide, LeftHand, Oskar Blues, so many more...
Good beers you may actually have heard of: (I prefer ales to the darks)
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (Chico CA)
Stone IPA (San Diego CA)
Redhook ESB or IPA (WA/NH)
Magic Hat Blind Faith or #9 (Burlington VT)
Harpoon Pale Ale (Boston MA)
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA (DE) -absolutely the best
Anything by Rogue (OR)
Major Brews if ya gotta drink em:
Labatt Blue
Molson Canadian
Red Stripe
Pabst (seriously, the best cheap beer. Seriously.)
That is all.
For now. *burp* |

YES!
Yates: you are a man after my heart. thank you for noticing this thread!
1: I totally saw on the Sweetwater site about those dudes meeting in boulder! Hell yeah.
2: Harpoon is awesome. It's been my default 12 pack for a while now (the mix pack). I love their UFO and Munich Dark sooo freaking much.
3: You mentioned Left Hand? Milk Stout is the AWESOME!
4: 14 breweries in boulder? there is a god!
5: I could go on and on and on, but I'm sure other people would like to post. |

It's strange to say, but I really miss National Bohemian!
I can't find it in California, and it was my mainstay in Maryland! |

I've officially determined that Rickard's Red is my personal beer; Lakeport is a close second, only because it's so cheap, but Rickard's is the only one I can drink and actually swallow it without feeling like I want to vomit. As long as it's cold, that is. Warm beer is just...well, wrong. |

Cold beer is invariably better. I always drink my bitters and ales cold (in fact, the famous Newcastle Brown Ale is specially brewed to taste better cold). |

Some British beer is drunk warm. I have never understood this.
Also, my grandfather drinks his Newcastle Brown at room temperature. I have never understood this, either. |

I have a friend who went to UVM and he would talk about Magic Hat and I'd be like, "that's a dumb name for a beer."
But even dumber is the stuff my step-dad drinks, which is called "Druid Fluid." |

um druid fluid? gross. it reminds me of patchouli smelling hippies at those weirdy medieval society/ creative anachronism gatherings. . . . and their fluids.
and he-brew -- WANT some!! what's on the label? send me some!
i like the names of the aforementioned tabernacin quebecois crazy juices, and they actually are descriptive -- it IS the end of the world and you ARE damned when you drink fin de monde and maudite.. |

I've never even heard of it and I know it's terrible, sgower! TODALY PWND
***
i despise the seedy ass bars in hotels. the beer at the one in baltimore was not only the horrible but also was the expensive.
what was bizarre was that they had lots of crap and ONE good beer... they had rolling rock, budweiser, michelob and ANCHOR STEAM?
that doesn't make any sense! 35 craps and one awesome? don't most places stock either awesome or crap, not both? |
