Anyone like drinking it?
I know a lot of people here are big Tea aficionados, but I was wondering if we have any big coffee fiends here too.
Tea-drinkers, don't hate. I don't hate on your love of tea. |

i like the taste of coffee, but my stomach always feels bad after i drink it so i usually avoid it. there seem to be a lot varieties of coffee-type drinks that i know nothing about. kinda feel like i'm missing out.
one time i was at starbucks with this girl and i decided i was going to get some coffee. she ordered a cappuccino with soy milk, and i had no idea what i was doing so then when i ordered and said, "i will have a cappuccino with regular milk." and the cashier was like, "umm... so then... you want a cappuccino?" it was pretty awful.
edit: the cappuccino wasn't awful. it was pretty good. |

I need my coffee in order to function, but I don't feel good if I drink too much. I usually use a French press but sometimes use a stovetop espresso thingy. I don't own a drip-filter coffee thing. Coffee out of those is just okay.
I like nice dark roasts. |

I was traumatized by ants in my coffeemaker so now I drink less coffee
now I drink coffee on 1/3 of days, tea on 1/3, and nothing caffeinated on 1/3 |

Man, I can't even smell coffee without being utterly disgusted, which made morning classes tons of fun. |

Yeah, when I was younger I had that problem. Just the smell of it just made me nauseous, but living with a room mate that enjoys coffee (read WOULD DO ANYTHING INCLUDING KILL FOR COFFEE) I have some what gotten over that. |

I had that problem when I was little. Also had the same reaction to the smell of McDonald's. Also was prone to motion sickness. HATED long car trips starting in the morning, because my parents would stop for coffee and egg mcmuffins. So you can guess how that all worked out. |

I don't like the notion that people exist on some binary scale on which they must either like tea or coffee. I prefer tea, and the only coffee I make for myself regularly is cheap instant coffee for when I need a bit of stimulus to get myself going or I am too lazy to make tea. But I much enjoy coffee and often ask for coffee when I am out, especially because I don't trust most people to make very good tea. |

I would trust people less to make good coffee re: when people make tea they would probably just use twinnings and it's already in a bag that's good for 1 cup, so there's no way to mess it up unless they like hide it from you and let it steep for an hour before letting you drink it |

i can pinpoint my disgust for coffee to a single childhood roadtrip. we drove to new york with our neighbors, and their son tossed a thermos onto the floor of the seat i was in, thinking it was empty. it wasn't and ended up spilling all over the floor and on my feet. i had to sit in the car smelling it for like five hours. i'm surprised i didn't throw up. it basically has taken me over ten years to just get to the point where i can drink coffee every once in a while.
@tommy: a lot of places seem to use tazo and water that is way too hot. but i guess there are plenty of other threads about tea to discuss that. |

This is how we used to make coffee in the old country*
1) Pour hot water over ground beans. Make sure they are coffee beans.
2) Place coin in coffee cup.
3) Pour coffee into cup until you can no longer see coin.
4) Pour schnapps or similar spirit into cup until coin is fully visible again.
5) Add sugar corresponding to how much of a girly girl you are. In my case one lump.
*I still live there, but I practise calling it the old country for when I move out because I like the idea of one day being the amusing and oddly wise elderly immigrant in a sitcom. |

I like coffee. Last summer, I drank it every day (not much, but enough, I guess) and started having headaches on days I didn't drink it). So then, with some help, I weened myself down, and now don't drink it more than 2 days a week.
I drink a lot more tea now. Not enough that I'm addicted to that now or anything, though. |

Restaurants usually use those stupid water heater things for tea that make the water less that boiling hot. That is no damn good for black tea. And those little metal pots? Plz. Decent tea is made with a pot that insulates a bit, and you warm the pot first, then put in loose tea leaves (lots of them if you want strong tea - using a small amount and just steeping it longer gives you bitter, tanniny tea, not strong full-bodied tea) and then bring the water to a full boil, pour immediately, cover with a tea cozy and let steep for usually about 5 minutes unless indicated otherwise. Restaurants just don't do any of this! |

Katie, as in Tom's Sister, what is your opinion on tea warmers v cosies?
I don't have a cosy so I'm not sure if my tea would be better if I used one. |

I'm all about tea cozies. They get the job done. Also, I think I have some crazy attachment to them because they always seemed like an important thing to have when I was little? I mean it was something we used every day so I guess it seemed very essential? |

I have a glass teapot that a friend sent me all the way from America even though it was made like a few kilometres from where I live and when I put it on a tea warmer I get a beautiful little lamp made of tea. |

I drink tea and coffee. I drink tea at home because I know how to make tea and I really dislike instant coffee.
I drink coffee when I'm out because I really dislike the idea of paying $3 for someone to put a teabag in a cup of water. This rule doesn't apply at actual tea shops as opposed to coffee shops because they make tea properly for you (no teabags). But I rarely go to tea shops.
Question for everyone: how do you drink your coffee? I generally have either a flat white or an espresso. Once I ordered a long macchiato but discovered that here nobody makes them properly (they top the glass up with milk? wtf is that) and I don't care for that.
I think a flat white is peculiar to Australia and NZ for some reason. It's really nothing special it's a cappuccino without the 1/3 layer of milk foam (so it's 1 part coffee to two parts unfoamed steamed milk) with a cap of foam to seal it. Basically it's a latte in a normal sized coffee mug instead of a tall glass.

This sounds like such a wonderful thing I'm going to get some schnaps today.
What kind of schnaps do you use btw? |

I use Danish schnapps, which is spelt snaps but same thing. Except I guess some German Schnapps is wheat based—is Doppelkorn a kind of Schnapps? You can use wheat Schnapps too. It's a free country.
What I use is distilled from potatoes, sometimes with a few spices in it. You don't want the dark varieties for this; the lighter the better. Straight vodka or something would probably be fine. |

I really like the smell of coffee, which is good because over the summers I work at a coffee shop. I feel like caffeine doesn't affect me anymore, so I really just drink it because I like the taste. |

always start the day with coffee and end it with tea. really, i doubt i could go a day without either, but the coffee is probably the most important. |
