haha, i was expecting hostility on what seems to be such a tightly-knit board and the friendliness is throwing me off a bit, but in a good way!

it seems to me that people who want to fill their coffee up with all of this stuff are actually people who don't like or appreciate the taste of good coffee, but are actually looking for an excuse to have more sugar. but i guess maybe i am being a bit too critical, it's just that i really like coffee.

man sometimes coffee is just really bad and the only way to mask it is to add a lot of sugar/cream and you just get really accustomed to bad coffee and then you are confronted with good coffee and you don't really know what to do so you revert to a lot of sugar/cream

also it is fine to load up on that and make it a dessert as long as you don't like have a donut with it

Bossman that is terrible

I drink the most awful coffee at uni
It literally tastes like onions but that is what happens when the student guild monopolises all catering on campus and doesn't allow private business there

But i still don't have sugar. I just avoid the espresso because it is really the worst coffee i don't know what they do to make it so bad.

It's still a taste unique to coffee though, it's not like if I put all that shit in water it will be the same as when I put it in coffee

I guess with all the cream and sugar, it almost becomes like....a latte or something?

And Lattes are just like.....the poor man's cappucino? (only worse)

Sometimes regular coffee just doesn't wake me up the way it used to, so then I order something called a "Red Eye" - a shot of espresso in coffee.

attn: trainwreck re: red tea cc: everyone else

"red tea" is such an annoying term for rooibos. It makes it sound like a variety of actual tea. It makes it sound like it belongs in a list with black tea, white tea and green tea. It does not.

It's not as infuriating as "chai latte" though.

Katie: can you please enlighten the ignorant among us (i.e. me) as to the proper classification/definition of chai latte?

(I'm not trying to sound sarcastic or anything; I don't have any pre-existing assumptions about what it is. I just know I've had it and liked it, but not really sure of its contents)

Well, chai is traditionally made with milk (well, I guess I can't categorically state that chai is made with milk. It's made different ways in different countries) so I just hate when people call it a latte just because it is made with milk. It's not Italian! It would be like calling cabbage rolls cabbage dolmades or something. I guess if you're frothing the milk then it makes sense to call it a latte, but still.

What really annoys me is when they call it "spiced chai." That is like saying "cocoa chocolate" or like "pig bacon" or something. Chai is spiced by definition.

I also kind of don't like when people say "chai tea." I guess they're saying that to differentiate it from chai with milk? Like it's just the tea and spices? But yeah, still annoying.

It's CHAI. Just say CHAI.

but sometimes then you'll just get the tea and that's tastier than the lattes

Sure, but don't call it "chai tea." It's still just chai. If you want to avoid confusing people, you could call it "chai without milk." "Chai tea" is slightly better than "spiced chai" but still redundant because chai also is tea by definition.

I would rather that you would confuse chai with hemlock, but yes.

I just call it Indian tea. I don't think anybody around here ever uses the word chai.
