CHECK IT, FOOLS. Yes, that is the server splash page. Yes, I made it.
Anyway! The TF2 server on Kundor is up and running. I don't really get to play too much, so I am looking to make a few other people admins beside myself—lookin' at Dezro here, I suppose, maybe Shandy?
It's got all the stock maps, but not in standard rotation (you can go to Dustbowl or Well if you really want to but they don't exist outside of admins choosing them); maps change every 35 minutes or if an admin does it or via Rock the Vote. There are two custom maps on there as well: pl_cashworks_b2 and pl_cranetop_b7. I think most custom maps are awful but those two are gems. These also aren't in standard rotation but iirc they are in the RTV options. I was having a couple issues with them before though which I will iron out later.
The server is I think in Ohio, and I was getting ~90 ping earlier tonight, but then later realized my Internet was being taken up by torrents so maybe it is even better than 90!
When do you guys want to have games if ever?
BORING STUFF: This is controlled via SSH, and is installed on Ryan's Kundor account; therefore he and I are the only people who can turn it on or off. Dezro, is there some kind of webpage I could build with maybe Perl or something where people can basically enter a password to turn it on/off for games? This is out of my league. What are the options here? We can't really just leave the SSH connection open; this is a laptop and laptops get closed. I don't want to interrupt games by going to bed and closing the computer. |

The last time I played anything related to Team Fortress was when I remember it running just fine on our Windows 95 computer - it ran on Quake and there were a bunch of websites where you could find free downloads for everything. It was a lot of fun I was p. decent
is TF2 like the same thing? Different class of people you can choose from e.g. if you're an engineer you can build a gun turret or whatever |

So how do I connect?
(PS. don't ask me to admin unless it just means I can kick people- ask kevan, he knows how computer-useless I am) |

Hey guys I really want to play tf2 on our own server please!
Cranetops is awesome, almost valve quality in terms of balance and bottlenecks. I'm not sure if I've ever played cashworks. |

Tyler- yes you can create a server control panel to turn the server on/off
Most game servers that you buy have this. |

GOWER: TF2 is the same thing only a lot different. I haven't played the original but I know that now only the Demoman has grenades, and the Medic is a lot more fun now, and the Spy goes invisible instead of playing dead, and the art style and voice acting is amazing.

Okay, it sounds like you're running it as a foreground process which is BAD NEWS? I don't know the specifics of the TF2 server software, but what you either want to do is:
Run it in the background by putting an ampersand at the end of the command line (you can later stop it using the 'killall' command).
OR
Run the 'screen' command, then the server, then disconnect. This is maybe what you want to do if the server has a bunch of console controls you can't get to by logging in. To get right back to the server, run 'screen' again and it'll bring it back up.
BUT WHAT YOU PROBABLY REALLY WANT TO DO
is ask Kundor to install it as a daemon process in init.d
then when the machine goes down the tf2 server will come back on at startup
here's a script I found, there's probably others, and it needs to be modified for the details of your installation
no idea about PHP solutions |

A-also I dunno how to locate the server, there's a million and "tabb" didn't match any tags (I did turn off all my filters)? |

Okay I turned it on. Kundor's IP is 134.53.148.149, and there shouldn't be a password. I can't test it right now though so if something is wrong tell me and I'll take care of it. Just open the console and type "connect 134.53.148.149" and it should be fine. Get your friends to play, okay?
It's on Badwater right now. If you get three people playing, you can Rock the Vote, and with a 60% vote you can switch maps. It switches on stage end—meaning it'll switch after Gold Rush 1 or 2, if you are on them, instead of letting you play the whole Gold Rush. Make sense? I can change it from INSTANT to ROUND END to MATCH END so if you prefer something else lemme know.
Shandy, you'd be able to kick people, change maps, and call people stupid under a veil of anonymity. Sound good? If so join a game of TF2, type "status" into the console, and PM me your Steam ID. (It'll be like STEAM_ID:0:1:9283479827" or something iirc). DEZRO YOU DO THE SAME THING OR ELSE

Screen seems to work best, though screen -r gives me a list of things I don't know how to reattach correctly and the man screen entry is 20 thousand lines! But when I killed everything running since I couldn't figure it out (probably a stupid thing to do) I was kicked from Kundor but then when I came back it was definitely dead.
I don't really have an idea of what to do with that script and I'll have to wait until Ryan is back from class to get him to look because he is better at this than I am. The server should already reboot if it crashes though. |

Hmm...
`screen -xRR` will reattach to the first session it can
`screen -list` will list all the screen sessions you can attach to
`screen -Dr` followed by the screen session will reattach you
another thing you might try is:
start-stop-daemon --start --pidfile=~/tf2.pid --exec=/path/to/server/executable --chdir=/path/to/server/folder --background --make-pidfile
to start and
start-stop-daemon --stop --pidfile=~/tf2.pid
to stop |

hahahahaha
so I tried to log in to the server but I updated and it didn't work (version mismatch) so I logged into this other server which turned out to be a no-crit server :( but I was having lots of fun regardless
it was on badlands and two guys, one on each team, were doing that "heal the spy" thing, first against us (blu) then against red then against us again
but their spy was SO HORRIBLE! he would keep disguising as scout so I would keep burning him up. and we caught on quickly so we just kept killing whoever that guy was healing
this of course led to me dominating the hug out of that guy, and then he got kicked, and then I earned the BarbeQueQ achievement because apparently kicks count as disconnecting 'cause of crying home to mama.
the medic was like, "What happened?" right before he got banned
anyway, that and a little posing got me the final Pyro unlockable
I wonder if I'm going to end up in some shitty video? |
