If you're not really muscly or really sedentary you can use one of the many bmi calculators on the internet to get a general idea of it. If you want a more accurate number you can go to a trainer at a gym and they'll measure it with calipers or an electrical thing-a-ma-bob. The scales that measure it are notorious flip-floppers unfortunately. |

If you are interested in doing some reading I recommend this blog,
http://fitnessblackbook.com/
The author is a bit unconventional with some stuff he suggests, but I've tried a few of the things in some of his posts and I found it successful. I actually like it more then other fitness blogs or websites I've read because he doesn't try to tell you there is only one method to reach specific fitness goal but instead he'll post about a lot of different things and you can see a lot of options to try. |

I'll have to read that sometime. Not today though I'm pretty busy at work (who has two hour meetings anyway)
so I biked to/from work yesterday, and it was hard. I haven't biked that far in a while. My original intention was to bike 3 times a week, but I think I'm going to have to build up to that. So I'm starting with once a week. |

The DVD is all-knowing
(I didn't work out yesterday, I got sidetracked by my gf)
(going to the gym tonight for sure) |

okay so this week has been pretty bad as far as going to the gym goes - the most activity I did was biking to work on Tuesday (really hard, gotta do it again this week at some point P , and I helped a roommate move in last night. Also my gf and I threw around the softball Saturday evening. The point is not a lot of activity
anyway this morning I cheated and weighed myself ahead of the April 26th date I set for weighing and I'm at 296 so I must be doing something right I guess? |

You shouldn't trust individual weighings, but weigh yourself daily and check the average of the last 10 weighings instead. Then draw a graph out of these average values. This way you'll have a much more realistic picture of your progress. |

lots of things can affect your daily weight - for example, if you just happen to drink a lot of water - but if you're actually losing weight, the average weight will eventuall go downward :) |

The reason I'm trying not to weigh myself daily is to try and avoid the psychological factor in all of this.
For instance, I probably wouldn't see a lot of results in the first week of trying, and I might think "ffs why am I even trying" and give up (not likely, but it's very discouraging) or at least make less effort.
I see what you're saying about average daily weight though - I just think that in this case, I have a set goal that I'm trying to reach and I don't want to think about it. I just want to know that I'm actively trying to lower my weight and I don't want any psychological shit slowing me down.
Edit: I should also mention, I weighed myself Sunday morning and was at 295. I can't remember what I was at the last time I weighed (which was after my second "official weigh-in") |

I already do that I mean come on common sense
though the order is usually
1) poo,
2) get naked,
3) weigh
because I don't want to get the scale dirty |

That is perfect. You got yourself a gym partner who won't take no for an answer!

The problem is my BMI is nigh on in the middle of the healthy range, but I know I'm atrociously unfit at the moment. |

Still maintaining 295 BUT here's the most important thing
I have a whole bunch of these nice shirts from Old Navy that I got on clearance (say all you want about Old Navy but their clearance section is p. great), and well I guess after the first washing they shrunk a tiny bit. Not so much that they don't fit, but my belly kind of hangs out at the bottom and I have to stretch the shirt.
Anyway I noticed yesterday while wearing one of said shirts I didn't have to stretch it out to hide my belly. :) |

xylo I think it's okay that you don't weigh yourself as long as you're keeping up with the exercises. The way I figure, results will come if you keep working at it...the actual weight doesn't matter so much as how you physically feel. |

I am also getting back to the 4-5 times a week exercise schedule. This is good because I'm hells of sedentary at work and at home. |

I just checked mine, and I am the same. Very slightly under the middle of the healthy range, but really out of shape nonetheless |

people our age (most of us are 18-27 I'm guessing) should be able to do 40 pushups the man way or woman way as appropriate without stopping. And then be able to I don't know run a few miles or something. |
