I most recently picked up Yoshimi Battle the Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips. It's intesnsely good stuff and it makes my ears happy to hear it.

The next cd I plan to buy will be the new Death Cab one coming out soon (Aug 30 I believe?) unless something bright and shint distracts me first.

Yeah, I just bought two Yoshimi EPS, fight test and ego tripping at the gates of hell, some really good remixes and new material on them, and I got them cheap. I also bought ( ) by sigur ros and White Light/ White heat by The Velvet Underground.

Ooh, ( ) by Sigur Ros might very well be the finest cd made the last few years (or ever).

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds

That is, BY FAR, my favorite Elvis collection (I'm not sure it's an album proper). Kentucky Rain! Any Day Now! Wearin' That Loved On Look! Don't Cry Daddy! True Love Travels on a Gravel Road! In the Ghetto! Long Black Limousine!

SO GOOD!

Only complaint - for some reason, the bass is mixed WAY too high.

I bought it based on things you said earlier, Steve! Also: Inherit the Wind! Stranger in My Own Hometown! Gentle on My Mind! Freakin' Suspicious Minds! And basically every other song on there.

Suffice to say: it was a little expensive, but I am not disappointed at all!

Elvis is pretty ok, but In The Ghetto might be the coolest song of all time, if not this month!

I've listened the hell out of it! Also, it's really fun to sing along to on guitar. I get to bust out my sexy Elvis impersonation

OH RIGHT! Gentle on My Mind! Good lord, that is a great album.

Also, on the second disc, check out his version of Hey Jude. I love how he does perfunctory versions of McCarteny's yelps and howls and Ju-Ju-Ju-Judie-Judie-Judie-Now's. It's like, "Hey Elvis, you don't have to do it verbatum, man."

OH MAN! Also, Rubberneckin'!

Im with you on that one and I agree that it is one of the most kick back and listen albums I have ever owned.

I bought arcade fire at the same time and i like that too but i think it is a bit repetitive.

I sometimes can't tell which song is which! I expect to hear "Laika" on half the tracks.

I have this problem where I keep all my CDs in a big case and pile the actual CD cases in the corner never to be used again. Whenever I mention a band someone inevitably asks "oh, do you like name of track?" and I have to explain that I have no idea because I just listen to the CD without looking at the case and so have no idea what the songs are called and often even the album.

I will not change though because it is handy and i am better than you.

Oh man, I do the same thing. in fact, to combine the last two posts, just this week someone mentioned an Arcade Fire song, and I didn't know the name, but when she sang a few lines, I knew exactly which one!

Since Saturday I've gotted:

Liam Titcomb: (Self titled)
Richard Laviolette: Mary Carl
Sigur Ros: ()
The Greenhornes: East Grand Blues
Snow Patrol:(I forget the CD name, but it was 2.99 unopened at a thrift store. Couldn't say no)
The Unicorns: Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?

I don't think it's possible to get tired of it! I'd listen to it constantly, but I won't because I'm afraid I might get tired of it.

I just acquired an unreleased album by a lovely band called The Dead Science. It comes out Oct. 25 but it leaked a couple of days ago. They're really jazzy but also not. I saw them in April wow, they are amazing live. In their I think like 20 minute set, the bassist used a stand up, a 5-string fretless, a normal guitar and a normal bass. The drummer had probably 5 sets of sticks/mallets/etc. that he was using and hit every part of the drums, including the drum casings and walking all the way around the set to hit the bass drum himself. They're very... focused. Their song are sometimes kinda of haunting I suppose. They kind of meander through each one, but not in a boring way. ANYWAY, their new album is Frost Giant and it's amazing.

Oh and PS they are on Absolutely Kosher records.

It has to be, Boo! I dunno, for me if a record label joins the ranks of the RIAA, they have to start doing cool shit like that in order for me not to be bitter at them. WHAT I'M SAYING IS I THINK THAT THEY DID THIS FOR ME.

Recently:

  • The indigo soul mix summer chillout album. Not bad, but really lacks a great deal of soul, and a great deal of chill.
  • The new white stripes album, get behind me satan. Dissapointing, four tracks I enjoy, everything else seems recycled from previous songs.

I like how pretty much 50% of the bands on that label are Rob Crow side projects.
