I can't even imagine it with Garfield saying something. It's too perfect already. |

...he's more like an actual cat.
Not the lasagna-swilling, acid-quip-spouting, banal creation that the rest of the world knows.
And frankly, this way, he's MUCH BETTER. |

This is so beautiful. I had no idea that a single character could totally disable a comic that way.

It would be cool if somehow Jim Davis could see this thread. |

Anyone think they can improve "Cathy" somehow? Maybe everyone talks except Cathy? I don't know, it could be hopeless... |

Yup, the lure of that hyperlink was too much to resist. If only Garfield had actually been published like this, I might actually have bought a subscription to the ghastly Toronto Sun.

I'm not sure if this one is funnier, but the juxtaposition between the grief on Luann's face and her brother's attack struck me. |

This is one of those weird ones, where you know Jon isn't actually supposed to hear Garfield, but clearly this is in response to something Garfield said. Huh. |

There are som many comics I didn't give the treatment because it was simply Jon saying something bland, then one panel of him looking at Garfield. Then one panel of him REACTING TO GARFIELD'S THOUGHTS!
What the hell. |

You guys didn't know he's psychic?
He told me so, without talking. |

While it doesn't work for all of them, a looonnnnnnggg deadpan stare and raised eyebrow usually seems to imply "Bitchslap!" to me. People like Jon are good at correctly interpreting people's nonverbal statements that they are totally inadequate, which is usually the sum of Garfield's statement. |

I like it because it's as though Jon takes a moment to consider what he said, mentally kick himself and then project that hatred onto his cat. It's a neat little psychological study that I quite like. I'm not entirely sure that Jim Davis didn't plan this all along and that we're merely forging the next step of his global empire. |

These new Garfield-with-silent-Garfield comics are funny, but only some of them are funny objectively and the rest are funny because you're familiar with the original context. Mixed results! Still pretty good though. |
