Silly sound effects used in serious songs.

In 'Guns of Brixton' by The Clash, about getting into gunfights with police, it using a 'bo-o-ing' noise.

The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite were the two bands that immediately sprang to mind. "Should I Stay or Should I Go" has a weird "woo!" sound effect at the beginning, but in the BAD song The Globe it's re-used and followed by the line "bless you". Apparently it was someone sneezing?

I believe those boingy noises are a jew's harp, which I feel is seriously underused in modern rock music. The only other instance of jew's harp I can think of on a song I actually own is a "solo" in the middle of "Black Girls" by the Violent Femmes.

It's not exactly a "serious" song I guess, but this immediately made me think of that ridiculous "sproing!" noise in Genesis' "I Can't Dance".

Also, I just remembered those goofy video game-sound-effect type beeps and bloops in "Ivan Vs. GI Joe" also by The Clash. Just what is it with The Clash and Clash-related bands and goofy noises?

I guess Frank Zappa doesn't really count, huh?

I mean, he's like in a league of his own when it comes to silly sounds.

I blame Mick Jones. Though Big Audio Dynamite were all about the audio sampling, really.

I was going to post that Frank Zappa does this all the time, but it looks like I was beaten to it! Even so, he totally does.

Yes! Also, most of the rest of that CD and Lincoln have at least one "funny" sound
