Where does the music start coming from in panel 3? I would say the janitor's whistling but the notes don't trail from his mouth as you would expect... |

I took it to mean that in the first couple of panels, he had frozen in his Finishing Pose, but when she set fire to him, his mechanical parts short circuited and started singing again. Slowly and horrifically. Like a burned robot. |

The first panel has the reader understanding the music is present and very good, even "too good". The artist has not cluttered the panel with musical redundancy.
In the second panel suspicion results in violent and incredible immolation and reveals (of all things) the Terminator Robot (which invites all kinds of fantasizing). Now the warped and distorted notes are necessary to show the robots slow death and vain attempt to continue (which is also humorous).
I loved the last panel showing the next confident prospect, hand on hat, jaunty and full of confidence but juxtaposed with the perfect janitor methodically cleaning up the dying mess on stage.
A great example of classic timing! |

The robot/android guy should be singing "Human" by the League of that ilk. |
