OK, Im gonna say this once.

In 20000 years, when they are researching about ancient artistic expressions, they'll find this webcomic wave. They'll will divide it in genders and one gender will be Geek Dichotomy.
This functions as the following:
- One dumb obnoxious character.
- One sarcastic smart character.

Classic Panels:
- The dumb one comes up to the smart one, saying what could easily be a random quote, to the smart one's confusion.
- We are given a little bit more context about the causes to the dumb guys sayings.
- No one talks.
- The sarky one makes a sarcastic comment, the dumb one continues being dumb, the sarky one tops it off.

I have found more comics with this kind of structure all over the internet, DDC, CAD, NuklearPower, SpellsandWhistles, QC, Penny Arcade, you name it. Most of them follow a pattern alike!

This isn't webcomic specific, this it an ur-narrative!

Heard of Laurel & Hardy? Abbot & Costello? Same exact thing, from long before webcomics.

Yes, and people buttfucked before being gay became a fashion.

Im just saying that this movement became the common denominator for a big part of the webcomics all around.

And I'm saying it's always been the common denominator in comedy. (Comedy meaning FUNNY STUFF, not some crazy shakespearean's definition.)

Certainly not!
Most comedies introduce us to a single character who has mishaps!
And even though you could list some, this is "Geek humour" we are talking about. 2 characters ala Laurel & Hardy do not enter the gender, while the "Geek Humour" requires a smart and a dumb one.

I don't understand what you mean.

And my point is that jokes and joke narratives have always been based on a smart and a dumb one -- or the wit and the straight man, if you will. Often one is fat and the other is thin but this isn't required. Usually the fat one is dumb but well-meaning and the other is mean and sarcastic, but this is also not required.

Lets just forget about this and kiss.

I have been reading Questionable Content.
Where should my laughs be focused at? I havent found the humoristic element of this webcomic yet.

I don't like Questionable Content either. I find the art style pretty drab, and I don't think I've laughed at it yet.

There really isn't much of a humoristic element to QC. Some are "funny" in the sense that I say, "oh, that is a recognizable attempt at humor." I think QC's main draw are people who wish that they were the main characters and people who are suckers for a "will they or won't they" storyline.

i laughed at one of the earlier ones. I think the writing was pretty solid when the comic began, and the problem is in the fact that it never improved. it wasn't GREAT, but that's why it's a webcomic. Really, most webcomics are only admirable in that someone has enough time to draw, write, and color 2-3 a week, and most of them are only read by the author and a few of her or his friends. So things like QC get an A for effort, in that even if they are never funny they are significantly funnier than 95% of all the other webcomics.

i mean, really, there are only like 7 decent webcomics in the history of everything and 4 of them are represented on this message board. 5 if you count strom and friends.

I like how characters are drawn, but everything is just.... Too cute? Its too cute.
But this comic has a bright side: It has some funky decor. I think I may steal some of that.

Too cute! Yes. I mean, it works in some scenarios - Pintsize is a fantastic character, because he's really cute, frequently drunk, and a computer - but I'm sick to death of Marten and Raven. And Faye's just a bitch, <spoiler?> sexual abuse or no.

Despite all this, I will continue to read QC every day.

As to the question of GREAT webcomics, I'll list my seven - since apparently that's all there are:

1 - DDC
2 - PBF
3 - Leisure Town (it counts)
4 - Buttercup Festival
5 - Dead Funny
6 - White Ninja
7 - VG Cats

Here's my 7:

1. DDC
2. PBF
3. Overcompensating
4. ASW
5. Death to the Extremist
6. Poppycock
7. A lesson is learned but the damage done is etc.

Actually that is pretty much all of the GREAT ones.

The one named Faye likes to drink a lot and hit people.
The one named Martin likes ladies and bands that other people have heard of but only if they have heard of them recently.
The one named Dora was a goth but then she decided indie was cooler, immediately becoming accepted. She also likes sex.
The one named Raven was a goth, but then she decided emo was cooler.
The one named Ellen is a younger girl who likes sex.
The one named Pintsize is some sort of robot.
The one named Steve is Martin's friend.
The one named Natasha is some sort of punk rock girl who dislikes bathing.
The one named Sarah works at the coffee shop or at least did.

They all have poor posture.

(come on guys go easy. what if he is listening)

"STEVE & MARTIN"?! PROLLY NOT A COINCIDENCE!

You also forgot Sarah, the girl who appeared and disappears at the whim of the author.

Well I like it fine! A lot of the dialogue reminds me of Scary Go Round. And Scary Go Round is awesome!

I also like the art style even if it is kind of 2d.

Scary Go Round pwns!

Sadly, I haven't read it since my computer stopped working. The only storyline I didn't like was the time-travelling one. They rest were all great!

a lot of the words people have been saying don't sound like real webcomics to me!

Also i can never read scary go round because i'm intimidated by narrative driven comics.

That was the reason why I couldn't read the time-travel one: too narrativy!

I dunno - I could see similarities to Bobbins, but SGR is above and beyond QC. Scary Go Round's characters are more well-defined than QC, and the stories are a million times more interesting. Plus, SGR has a variety of dynamic angles and locales, while QC basically has a group of characters standing exactly four feet apart from each other against a flat wall, with the camera about ten feet away. Every day.
I also like Scary Go Round because he actually redraws panels. They're all vector, so John A could cheat, but doesn't. I'm fairly confident that QC copy/pastes vectors, then rearranges heads and arms a little bit. I think this wouldn't be such a big deal if the writing could back it up (ie. Dino Comics or Achewood), but to me it doesn't.

I won't blather on about this anymore - like I said, nothing against Jeph personally, and I'm aware lots of folks get into it, but QC is no Scary Go Round.

Now you say so, QC looks a bit like a movie of the 1900's.
