Gentlemen, I believe we're overdue for a thread about Batman. You can talk about all kinds of Batman related topics in here! Maybe you want to gush about Grant Morrison's current run on the Batman, or perhaps you would prefer to discuss the cartoons based on the character. Maybe you want to talk about the many movies he's been in? Argue about which version of Batman is the best? All of these bat-topics and more are welcome.

To start things off, how about checking out these four songs about the Caped Crusader? The first is a particular favorite. Feel free to share more songs about Batman!

Batman Begins would have been better if he never dressed up as Batman. He looks stupid.

Wait, do you mean that you wish he never wore any costume at all or just that he never dressed up in the Batsuit?

For the record I hated thelook of the batsuit too, but a film about Batman without at least a little costumed drama is a film about just Bruce Wayne.

I've read the novel of the first Keaton Batman like a dozen times - it was one of the first teen books I ever owned - and I really liked in it that he's so badass, when he can't wear his batsuit he just makes one from things he found in someone else's apartment.

Also I like the portrayal of sheet silver as being able to stop a handgun round at close range.

i haven't really liked the batsuits in any of the films. of all of them i liked dark knight's the best if only because it was slightly more practical than the others re: ability to turn his head, lighter weight. BUT i hated that they acknowledged onscreen that he couldn't turn his head before; i thought we were just supposed to be suspending our disbelief about that!

i can believe that he is wearing a suit that looks like it's made of rubber but offscreen he can actually turn his head but i absolutely cannot believe that a bro who by all rights shouldn't be even be able to drive in that thing can single-handedly clean up gotham's crime-ridden streets

I don't think it's possible to make a batman suit that isn't stupid, so yes, I think he should just have been Bruce Wayne. Maybe cover up his face with a ski mask if he absolutely has to wear a disguise. Superheroes should only wear silly costumes if the story is supposed to be silly, or at least very unrealistic.

Batman Returns is the only good Batman movie.

Thorsby you have hit a nerve with me re: superhero costumes, so I'll only say that I think you're holding superhero stories to a higher standard of realism than they need to be.

Anyway, let's all hear the story of the British Batman.

I only think the last two Batman movies was going for that standard of realism.

So I picked up the Batman Showcase from the library and man, is it ever crazy. There is a story where the bad guy uses a paralysis... thing against Batman and Robin to protect a secret crime city underneath Gotham, which is described as having a movie theater (showing only crime movies, of course!) and a passport booth.

Double post! Who would win in a dance-off, Batman or Superman? The answer may surprise you!

Welcome back, cats and kittens! Today I checked out Batman: RIP from the library, thus completing my read-through of Grant Morrison's run on Batman. It was pretty great you guys! Just a tale of Batman being a rad dude through and through. I highly recommend it.

Oh, and I also got a book called The Many Lives of the Batman, which is a series of academic essays about Batman from the late 80's. It is not as good as I hoped it would be, as it's kind of a mixed-bag overall. The best essays, in my opinion, are the interviews with Denny O'Neil and Frank Miller, as they are both interesting to me as a fan, and I feel like they couldn't have been done without Batman. Two of the other essays I liked, "Batman: The Ethnography" and "Same Bat Channel, Different Bat Times: Mass Culture and Popular Memory," felt like they could be done with any fan-thing. And there was one essay espousing a campy, gay Batman that could have been such an interesting perspective from an outsider that was ruined by the author's petty refusal to accept any other Batman than a campy, gay one. I certainly don't think Batman is gay and campy, but I'd be more willing to listen to his side if he weren't so damned awful about it. It's got some lines that read like they were written by the Joker even, if that makes sense. And don't even get me started about the final essay exploring the longevity of Batman, which started off with good intentions but lost its way somewhere around the second page. It's a shame, because I really think this book could benefit from recent perspectives that have popped up around the Bat-mythos.

HIPPOCLEIDES DOESNT CARE I liked this book, but thought it had some serious issues?

I've been reading a lot of Batman recently! The first time I've read a whole bunch of comic books.

I read: The Black Glove, Batman RIP, Battle for the Cowl, Batman Reborn, Hush, Hush Money, and The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul.

Some were good, some were mediocre! I am probably going to read some more.

So more details about the third Batman film have been released. Not a whole lot of information has been released, but we do now know the film has a really crappy name.

Are you kidding? Look, whatever problems Batman Begins has as a name (and I don't have much of a problem with it, although it is a little on the nose), at least it doesn't suggest Batman is a loaf of bread.

bakery sex scenes are ignored far too often in adaptations of the Batman mythos

Do they even do that anymore? All the recent ones I've heard about are just the actual name of the thing with the subtitle "the porno parody".

realizing that adding the word "parody" was all they needed to do to keep from getting sued was the worst thing to ever happen to the porn industry :'(

Most of the porn parodies I've seen have a "triple x" after the name of the thing they're parodying, so I dunno.

Anyway it doesn't matter because Nathan Cosby made the exact same two jokes I did.

I'm guessing he probably wanted to say The Dark Knight Returns but that's taken.

Also: Nolan doesn't like putting "Batman" in Batman movie titles if he can, because I guess he thinks people will assume Adam West is involved.
