Haven't been here for quite a while - not sure if anyone remembers me, or if the same people are still around.
Just wanted to drop in and say hi, and check how everyone's doing?

Hi! I am doing pretty good.

What ever happened to your comic?

Does it exist anywhere anymore?

Hey Unwinder!

It's currently only on my laptop. The whole thing fizzled out as I got into art school (partly made possible by the illustrations I've done for 'Attack of the Movies', the blog by, uhm, borishly... was that his name here?).
I was thinking about putting it up again... I do sculpture now, though, so it might be a bit confusing to see comics in my portfolio then.

What did I miss here while I was gone?

You're wrong, though.

Nope! But I've been in the UK for almost 5 years. I think I might be able to apply for citizenship by now?

Actually I'm 100% German, just living in the UK - Scotland to be precise.

You were really close, though.

I just realised the 'Location' thing under my avatar might have helped you out a bit.

Yeah, I probably talked about that before.

Are you at Edinburgh college of art?

I just finished the sculpture/installation programme at OCAD here in Toronto.

Yep, I am!
Someone from my year is going on exchange to Toronto in autumn.

So did you just have your degree show? How did it go?

Yeah we had thesis panels with professors, and then a big final show. It went really well, the show was amazing, and I got 95% on my thesis and an award for big chunk of money.

Wow, that's great. Congratulations on the big chunk of money as well. It's always good to have a pay-off at the end of those shows (especially because it's so rare to get it). I'm quite glad I still have some time before I graduate - the real world scares me.

What kind of stuff are you doing? Do you have a webpage I could check out?

for sure, my website is www.wafs.ca. It doesn't have my thesis work up yet, I'll get around to that some time soon. A lot of what I've been doing is video based, I'm especially interested in working with non-narrative video and the exploration of data and systems in aesthetic ways. Right now I am doing a project for the Luminato festival here in Toronto that involves me drawing squiggles with a marker on t-shirts that are for sale, to illustrate infinity.

Hey boorishly!
It's been more than useful to me doing those illustrations. It was great to work to a deadline and it trained my drawing skills quite a lot (and it was also fun).
Are you working on another blog project now?

Andrew, that's great stuff - Survey and Trains being my favourites. Do you have a special way of presenting them in space, or are you quite open as to how it is presented (e.g. projection on wall) - if you're interested I've just started up a little collective trying to find good exhibition space in Edinburgh, and if you like we could show your videos as well?

My sculpture is... quite different to yours. You can find some of it over here on http://www.cargocollective.com/djr.

Some of them had specific settings.
Survey was projected on the inside of a door of a dark room, so that to see it you had to first open the door and have it projected on you. The effect was that everyone coming in was surprised and blinded by it, and everyone already inside got to watch their reactions.
The communicable disease videos are all formatted to play on cell phones, and can be sent between them.

I'd definitely be interested in showing something in Edinburgh! Let me know what you're planning and I might be able to have something new/specific for it. I've never been to Scotland, but that's where my ancestors were from, a few generations back. The Stewarts were kings for a good while, there.

I've put the old webcomic up on my new website thing now.
Due to restrictions of my website skills they are not as big as I'd like them to be.
