Why would the movie lie, Melissa? It wouldn't add anything to the plot of the film. In fact, it would take away from it because it isn't even cute. It is a taunting sort of dance, I think. A smug dance.

That is why I believe gophers dance. Caddyshack was just telling the story as it really happened, and didn't omit any fact.

Caddyshack has a pretty basic snobs-vs-slobs story though? I mean I see how you could view it as a neo-con movie, but that's probably stretching the point.

Communal Ghostbusters

As the movie starts the problems of ghosts are well under control by government ghostbusters.

The Republican Party wins the presidential election and they decide to privatize the ghostbusting business. Only the rich can afford first-rate ghostbusting. The poor most use substandard ghostbusting, or in some cases no ghostbusting at all.

The number of ghosts increases dramatically in poor neighborhoods. After a while the ghost problems spreads everywhere, and even rich people are worse off than before. Nonetheless the Republican Party remains popular thanks to capitalist propaganda.

The hero of the movie, EPA agent Walter Peck reveals that to cut corners, the ghostbusting firms has been using unsafe and illegal nuclear devices to capture ghosts. This help sway the public opinion against privatized ghostbusting.

In the nail biting finale The Socialist Party narrowly beats the Republican Party in the next presidential election. Ghostbusting once again becomes a government job.

At the end of the movie a caption explains that within 18 months of the election the ghost problem was once again under control.

Did a ghost ever kill anyone in either Ghostbuster movie? I don’t think they did.

Maybe the ghosts caused them to die of heart attacks or shock, to which poor people were more susceptible due to poor diets and lack of access to adequate healthcare.

Plus I'm pretty sure a fox fur mauled an old lady in the first movie.

This is all a moot point, though, since most of the ghosts were (if I remember correctly) gaining access as a result of Gozer's attempted take-over of Earth, and I doubt the government would consider it in their best interests to allow the apocalypse (unless they were a bunch of necromancers or something). So I guess they would have to do something about that eventually, thus removing the majority of ghosts from the picture and forcing most ghostbusters to lower their rates in an attempt to remain afloat following the ghostbusting bubble-burst. The end result would probably be the incorporation of most independent ghostbusters into a small number of multinational franchises.

see if the necromancers take office they'll institute a lot of social welfare type programs and animate skeletons to do all the menial labor
which is something I'm for, but imo their health care proposal is kind of lacking

Good Will Hunting was another terrible movie because of its ideology.
