this man or woman also created the TVTropes pages for Bill Cosby, Ernest Saves Christmas, Retired Game Show Element, Kit N Kay Boodle, and Ziggy.

what can you expect from people who give "nightmare fuel" status to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie.

I wish I could have read that strip without all the comments.

It is pretty funny.

the problem is that the most awful tvtropes posts come to way more than 140 characters, and that's without context

and if you spend too much time explaining the context, you risk becoming a troper yourself

I've known about it for a while but thought it was just kind of a wiki of running gags in tv shows. I started reading an article this time and was just astounded.

TV Tropes seems to be primarily about fanfiction.

Tommy, is that all you or were the red comments already there?

This is important.

yeah this is basically the problem (a problem)

for any given article, the "fanfiction", "web original", and "webcomic" sections are way too proportionally large

I do like a lot of things about TV Tropes.

It has helped me to come up with a lot of ideas.

But it is definitely a love/hate thing.

OK, after kicking this around for a while, I've refined some stuff that bugs me about TV Tropes.

- Bros trying to legitimize stuff that does not matter in the examples. For instance, if there is a string of examples involving Star Wars, shifting into examples from the expanded universe without bothering to mention that they are not canonical or anything.

- Bros wanting to include as much information as possible about their pet franchises, for instance, "Crowning Moment of Awesome" should just be the coolest moment in a work, but it is guaranteed that there will be like twenty Buffy examples, and fifty Star Wars expanded universe examples, and a hundred Doctor Who examples.

- Using horrible internet terms as trope names, like using "awesome" and "fail" as nouns and/or using the Gargoyles cartoon as the namer for one of their main tropes.

- Really stupid shows and franchises being the best documented.

I was really surprised you didn't use more actual named tropes in your Tall Comic.

committee

Sort of related to unwinder's second complaint; it's interesting enough when it does what it purports it does, that is, documenting the story-telling shorthand used in narratives, but it feels like most of the tropers are just trying to force their favorite tropes into their favorite shows.

anyway when people don't do that it's actually kind of useful for finding movies or shows or books that you'll probably like based on their having elements that you like.

I am mostly suggesting that a page about the most awesome part of a work serves little purpose aside from letting bros go on and on about how much they like stuff.
