SBS keeps putting Pedro Almodovar films on. I watched All About My Mother again, which I always drift off a bit during and can never remember the end of, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, which is maybe my favourite movie. I haven't seen any other Almodovar films, though. They seem nice. They remind me of 90s Aussie comedies, but cleaner and less self-conscious.

SBS has also been running an Argentine movie month. The Motorcycle Diaries was brilliant but tonight I'd rather watch The Cooler. Yo Duck is Aballay any good?

hermione is v. hot whatever age she was in this movie

also the scene where harry has to force ddore to

drink icky medicine

is v. awkward and funny even tho it was supposed to be the climax or whatever

"source code"

it was actually really good

except think maybe it should have ended 5 minutes earlier than it did

(it didn't ruin the movie just

think that would have been the more artful choice)

There are parts of Ghostrider that are oddly watchable, but this film really is as stupid as everyone said it was.

he tries to crack a code for the kids
all the lil plastic letters he needs are in separate bins
he goes to one bin and pulls out a letter and sticks it on the wall without looking
he looks at the letter and is like
"wtf? an 'A'? I meant to put a 'B'!"
then he checks the bin and sees that it was mislabelled
"NOT THE 'B'S!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAA!" and he flips over all the bins and points a gun at the kids

Nah, we'll rent an auditorium and a DVD projector and hold screenings between the cage fights.

Actually hang-on I've got a modified diagram for a prospective Bomb Shelter kicking around somewhere.

Obviously this is just the main building. We're still waiting on plans for the boat house and tennis court, and the Couples Retreat is actually just a shack made out of fence pailings and corrugated steel.

Unfortunately the women's dorm is going to need to have windows looking on to the hallway. Otherwise the lighting costs would go through the roof.

@cmg: good suggestion! the original idea was to build a combination auditorium/gymnasium and stage the fights in there, but we soon realised that might interfere with the dvds and videogames. so we were going to built a covered courtyard adjacent to the auditorium, but the slab was too expensive (apparently, if you buy a boathouse they expect you to also buy a boat. it works-out slightly cheaper than buying the two separately, but the boathouse company is lucky it's the only one in the district. if we run-out of capital i may end-up threatening a settlement out of them). So we settled on the patio, since that way you could watch the cage fights from the common room, but on reflection that might bug people when they're trying to read. already spoken to the architect and we're gonna run this buy the builders on tuesday. (the architect is a girl i used to date who sometimes does the drafts for small firms on the sly).

@drp: i'm sorry but i've spoken to the architect and she says that while your joke is structurally sound, it fails to comply with the health and safety standards we'll be forced to abide buy if we're going to screw the government out of that small business grant by claiming to be a youth hostel.

Also, District 9 is on television. It's a damned good film, although walking into it halfway through can be a bit jarring, what the accents and odd phrasings and that one guy being a dick and all. Definitely impressive if only for the way it deploys its special effects. Also like that it manages to avoid damned near every pitfall of meaningful sci-fi, and not devolve into a load of sappy, transcendentalist wank. Although everything I've ever read by an African has been pretty grim in its outlook. Everything being Wilbur Smith novels, J.M. Coetzee's Disgrace, and the liner notes for a Bembeya Jazz National album which I can't understand half of since they're in French.
