What about Woody Allen? Shirley Jackson? Serge Gainsbourg? Albert Camus? The morning light? The child's eyes? The swim in the waterfall? The spots of the first drops of rain? The sun? The bread and wine? Hopping? Easter? The veins of leaves? The blowing grass? The color of stones? The pebbles on the stream's bed? The white tablecloth outdoors? The dream of the house in the house? The dear one asleep in the next room? The peaceful Sundays? The horizon? The light from the room in the garden? The night flight? Riding a bicycle with no hands? The beautiful stranger? My father? My mother? My wife? My child?

Well. Not the last two, obviously.

i dont get it are you implying that these things are art

What is this nonsense? Art has to be made by humans.

Humans are just little art factories, chugging out prettiness at every beat of the clock.

look i have a pretty broad personal definition of art

but

i think someone has to do something at some point in the process for it to be art and not just a thing

a naturally occurring landscape or phenomenon or the existence of a person is not art

even if they are "beautiful" (also art doesnt have to be beautiful, just saying, since all the things sundayroast bro named were cliche things of natural beauty or emotional comfort)

I was uh, I was making fun of my first remark (even though I kind of think it's right, so we agree).

Oh poor ;_;,the general in his labyrinth.

When the child was a child
It walked with its arms swinging,
wanted the brook to be a river,
the river to be a torrent,
and this puddle to be the sea.

(the suggestion I am making here is that when you make claims like this in public someone will almost certainly start quoting German cinema at you)

hahaha i k miss meg
both as a person and a presence that gets trolled

also this thread was great/made me wish i read poetry
am w stutter as mostly poetry-illiterate
have read a little bit of elliot and liked him and
re: him being funny
always read Mr Eliot's Sunday Morning Service(?) as an hilarious+quite brutal response to critics hasslin him for
irregular meter and atheism
not sure if that's how it was written but makes it v v funny imo
just tseliot being an arse to try to make critics feel bad about the fact that he's smarter than em

Last night I was going to make some slap-dash post about how I think Eliot mostly wrote from the heart, it's just that he was a super-intellectual weirdo and everyone thought he was being difficult on purpose.

while that is true it's
less amazing that spammers have thought to make bots that re-use sentences were posted earlier in the thread

Kenneth Fearing in Love 20 Cents the First Quarter Mile wrote:
All right. I may have lied to you and about you, and made a few
pronouncements a bit too sweeping, perhaps, and possibly forgotten
to tag the bases here or there,
And damned your extravagence, and maligned your tastes, and libeled
your relatives, and slandered a few of your friends,
O.K.,
Nevertheless, come back.

Come home. I will agree to forget the statements that you issued so
copiously to the neighbors and the press,
And you will forget that figment of your imagination, the blonde from Detroit;
I will agree that your lady friend who lives above us is not crazy, bats,
nutty as they come, but on the contrary rather bright,
And you will concede that poor old Steinberg is neither a drunk, nor
a swindler, but simply a guy, on the eccentric side, trying to get along.
(Are you listening, you bitch, and have you got this straight?)

Because I forgive you, yes, for everything.
I forgive you for being beautiful and generous and wise,
I forgive you, to put it simply, for being alive, and pardon you, in short, for being you.

Because tonight you are in my hair and eyes,
And every street light that our taxi passes shows me you again, still you,
And because tonight all other nights are black, all other hours are cold
and far away, and now, this minute, the stars are very near and bright

Come back. We will have a celebration to end all celebrations.
We will invite the undertaker who lives beneath us, and a couple of
boys from the office, and some other friends.
And Steinberg, who is off the wagon, and that insane woman who lives
upstairs, and a few reporters, if anything should break.

I really like that poem. It made me realise that I don't really care about the formal aspects of a thing so long as it's witty and insightful. Which isn't to say that I don't like how it's written - just that something's being witty and insightful immediately circumvents my tendency to be a dick about things.

What are some other poems of his worth reading?

$2.50 I liked a lot. The poem you posted in full I took for something written in the last ten years. Shows what I know.

Also,

wikipedia wrote:

is solid gold.
