Tell me about some magazines you like. I'm trying to figure out what people like about magazines.

2600, Nuts and Volts, Game Developer... sometimes I'll grab an issue of Make, but it's like $15 so there's got to be a really good project... I got an issue of the Harvard Business Review like a year ago, I remember liking that... I dunno, I don't really go to the magazine rack often.

I liked
nintendo power before it went shit
if I had to say why I liked it it would be
because it was a bunch of news in an area I was interested in
presented in a way that was easy to look through

nothing has managed to replace it
I still want some source of video game news that is not like
wading through troughs of shit

closest thing is the penny arcade newspost but
it being just one person
means a lot of stuff gets no mention

wish websites would release monthly tables of contents of articles they published that month
organized into sections

I used to reread magazines with computer game news. The games could have been release years ago, but I'd still like reading about them and the expectations people had. The writers could still convince me that it was something new and cool they were writing about.

I like magazines with
big pictures of
the insides of homes or
animals or
pretty color schemes

I like how the paper feels; slick and shiny

I used to get better homes and gardens for like a dollar a year
I am sometimes tempted to pick up magazines in doctors' offices but then I remember how they're covered in filth from peoples' dirty paws

The target and kohls ads kind of fill the magazine role for me now re: shiny pretty pictures

This is a magazine about films. The best part of it is two pages devoted to cult movies. I hardly ever like to watch really weird obscure movies. And I don't think it's funny to watch terrible movies. But I like reading about them. You get all the highlights of the movies without having to watch any of the boring stuff.

I read Private Eye quite a lot. It is a satirical/polemical political crusading magazine in the UK. It details corruption and injustice and has a bunch of running jokes and crude humour. It makes me furious with politics.

I also read New Scientist when I go on long journeys. I sometimes get Edge, as well, which is a kind of high brow self-regarding games magazine.

I really like edge. I get it sometimes when traveling. It's just so thick.
