I watched some of this so I'll start


okay I don't recall the first season of Power Rangers all that well but I definitely don't remember the scene where Rita rode a flying penny-farthing after sending a skyscraper into space to retrieve her palace, which had her fucking name written on it
it seems like except for the sound the putties make, Power Rangers was edited to be less ridiculous than Zyuranger
which is just kind of fucked up weird


as for Gokaiger, it's actually pretty sweet except for when they use computer graphics
but it's still mostly dudes in suits
it's interesting how differently they start off, like, in Zyuranger all you learn about the rangers is their colors and names and weapons and prehistoric animals and that they are very old
but in Gokaiger they take the time to do some character scenes in between the action
and the action is pretty neat, they're pirates so they do some great swashbuckling shit
and then, in the most toyetic goddamn thing I've ever seen, they take little figurines of past Sentai, flip them into keys, put those keys in their transforming phone things, change into their costume, and use their attacks
the sheer amount of merchandise being pushed must be amazing

also Captain Marvelous is the best name for anyone ever


the first thing I notice about Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is that Usagi lives in building 4-20 SMOKE A BOWL
also I'm glad they don't make those girls wear the terrible wigs all the time

when she gets a closeup she transforms into a puppet, which looks much better than the cg

it is really hard to believe that these were all made by the same company
like the Sentai shows are pretty well made kids shows, but Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon looks like it was designed specifically for someone to make a montage of it for Everything Is Terrible

I think the real issue is whether it can be interprated as reinforcing unfair expectations in young men re: Stark is a fantastically wealthy "self-made man" of steel, with a moustache and everything, who lives half his life encased within an enormous, particle cannon-equipped phallus.

it's not until episode eleven that they Gokai-Change into the ZyuRangers/Power Rangers and they immediately get their asses kicked :'(

Wow, Gokai Red and Blue are pretty gay for each other.

Also it kind of sucks that none of the villains look as goofy/awesome as the dudes in all the avatars. Like, even when they do something whimsical in the monster design it's overpowered by the alien grotesqueness and/or serious robotics.

I just watched a two parter about how the Hurricangers, being ninjas, distrust the Gokaigers, who are pirates. DOES THIS MEAN ROBERT HAMBURGER IS BIG IN JAPAN OR DID THE MEME CROSS OVER SOME OTHER WAY OR DO YOU THINK IT WAS JUST A COINCIDENCE? It's weirding me out, man.

finally saw some Go-Busters
and
well, Gokaiger visited crap from the whole history of Super Sentai without even giving a nod to the US spinoff
but Go-Busters is all "morphin' this" and "megazord that"
and there's a good case to be made that the main villain is supposed to be like an evil Zordon

just seemed odd

I kind of want them to make a Power Rangers version of Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger for like Adult Swim or something
but
there are so many ways that could end up terrible

I just started watching Kamen Rider Decade, having never seen any Kamen Rider before and

maaaaaan this is fucking sweet
the series is like a grand tour of CRAZY JAPANESE KIDS SUPERHERO SHIT
for three episodes it'll focus on a particular Kamen Rider series and then switch
and if you don't know how these kind of shows work, there's not really any year-to-year continuity

like, for the first three episodes it's what I expected Kamen Rider to be about
the next three episodes are about a little boy who is a HALF DRACULA PRINCE OF DRACULAS who uses his Kamen Rider powers to make people and draculas get along
the next three episodes are IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, THE PEOPLE ARE REPRESENTED BY TWO SEPARATE YET EQUALLY IMPORTANT GROUPS: THE POLICE, WHO INVESTIGATE CRIME; AND THE KAMEN RIDERS, WHO JUST FIGHT A BUNCH AND THEN WE ASK THE WINNER IF THEY THINK YOU'RE GUILTY OR NOT. THESE ARE THEIR STORIES.
the next three episodes explore Kamen Riders in the corporate world
and the next three after that are again more like what I expected but it takes place at Smart Brain Academy
I don't know about the next three but I expect some wacky shit!

oh wait I forgot to mention the part during the corporate kamen rider bit where all of a sudden a kamen rider shows up from another dimension, plays a SWEET GUITAR LICK THAT MAKES EVERYONE EXPLODE and then disappears, no explanation given

in one of the Kamen Rider Decade movies, this evil dude holds up a dried squid in one hand and a bottle of beer in the other and says
