If it remained on a titular hinge, you'd have Ghostbusters minus Ghostbusters, which would be pretty interesting.

I don't know whether that would mean the four people don't appear in the movie at all, or just they're not Ghostbusters.
It would be a commentary about how in the standard version these guys are really taking credit for marshmallow men who'd explode on their own anyway, etc.
