Been wondering the same. I do have most of the illustrations I did for Boorishly's blog on my flickr, but that's about it.

I think it really is for hobby photographers pretending they are more than just amateurs.
There are some very good pics, though, to be fair.

It is quite helpful if you're moving into a new town and want to get some impressions, although streetview seems to be a more accurate alternative for that.

mostly i have been using it to be able to show my friends higher quality pix over the internet because photobucket's annoying and i just got a camera but
i was really bored last night and joined some groups and mapped my pictures
there are only 40
but it seems like such a nice site i wish i knew what to do with it

also i ordered some moo minicards

and put the address, phone number on the back
they are a gift for my boss
i hope she likes them, she has been wanting business cards for three years but wanted to make sure they were pretty

I started it to post pictures from my photography classes in college. Then I didn't post anything for a long time until I put up all my photos from New England Webcomics Weekend. I'll probably continue to not post anything for a good while again now.

Flickr is great for photos presented on an actual page but I still prefer Photobucket for simple hosting.

things you can do with flickr:

add map locations to your pictures
add tags
put pictures in groups
give pictures or picture groups names and descriptions
give licenses to your pictures
uhmmmm... comment on pictures?

i dont know what else there is to do but i am kind of in the dark about it also.

if you get that pro account you can monitor how people are looking at your pictures i think.
